Title: Oil leak Post by jonnycab on May 17th, 2006, 2:17pm I have recently noticed that I am losing engine oil. I've had a gander underneath & it seems to be dripping from the front of the engine at the bottom of the timing chain cover. The engine has only done 38,000 miles since it was fitted a couple of years ago. Any suggestions?....I am hoping it is not what I think it is. :'( |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by Dave on May 17th, 2006, 2:21pm You sure its not just running to the lowest point before dripping off? Mine did this with a cam cover gasket leak, made a right mess which made finding the actual leak more difficult :-/ |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by jonnycab on May 17th, 2006, 2:30pm It's a 2.3, & my worse case scenario is a crank shaft oil seal :'( :'( |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by fordcos on May 17th, 2006, 2:40pm sounds like it from your discription no oil from rocker cover or anything like that. wynns do a seal rejuvenator sold at halfords i have had some success with it. worth a try |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by jonnycab on May 17th, 2006, 2:41pm I've tried the Wynns stuff & it doesn't seem to have made any difference. |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by fordcos on May 17th, 2006, 2:44pm looking like a seal change. but i would make sure that is where its from first |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by sector-9 on May 17th, 2006, 9:43pm Even if it is the front crank seal it's not too bad a job - you don't have a timing belt to remove, just the pulley to be able to get to it. Darren |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by jonnycab on May 17th, 2006, 11:24pm Thanks sector-9....you've cheered me up :). I'd have a go at it myself, but as I use the car to earn a living (taxi) then it has to be done pronto (by the garage). My Mk1 Granada has just come out of winter storage & that is keeping me busy at the moment 8). |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by jonnycab on May 25th, 2006, 1:18am Yup...pretty sure it's the crankshaft front oil seal thats leaking. Having not done this job before, i've been searching the site, but can't seem to find the procedure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If it's too long a job then it goes to the garage. |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by howiedintheplace on May 25th, 2006, 8:13am Not sure what space you have in front of the pulley but if you can get a puller on there with out too much bother it's not that hard. Ford tools 21 147 & 21 051 make it easy if you can borrow them. |
