Title: Might sell my Car - How Much?
Post by henry123 on May 17th, 2006, 4:07pm
My car failed it's mot. It is off road at the mechanics in limbo at the moment.

The car is 98 R reg, met blue, 2.3 16v Ultima Estate. 142,000 miles. LPG conversion with doughnut tank in spare. Full Leather. Re-con gear box at 115,000 miles. Every gadget works. Excellent interior. Smooth running and powerful engine. Full Service History and recent service just under a year ago. I have owned it nearly 3 years. Has four fairly new Primacy Tyres and all the Ultima Goodies.

I am considering selling rather than spending money on getting it through the mot, tax and another years insurance. It is also my luxury car and is not essential to the family (my wife says).

Can anyone give an idea to it's value - what I should achieve on autotrader.  or what you might want to offer.

To pass the mot it needs new rear shocks, which I can get for £384 from fordparts. It also needs a new rear backbox. Other than that it will pass.

Here is a fair list of every fault other than the things listed the car is perfect:

The aircon compressor broke a month ago. Before that it was running ice cool. It has a new belt by=passing the compressor. The rear bumber has been cracked and split for a year, some people would probably want a new one.  There are some light scracthes dwon the side. There is a judder only on braking at motorway speeds. I think new pads or rear discs needed. The front pads and discs were replaced about a year ago. The boot doesn't open with the remote fob anymore only the key.

I live in Worcester.

I'm afraid the LPG but is the only saving grace you have at the moment as prices at the moment are rock botom, there are just so many about. A lot of MOT failure sales at the mo are getting anywhere from £150 to £350. And as you have a few other problems in there, you would be better breaking if you can. Certain you would get decent pennies for the LPG at least and that autobox (provided with history!!!) could get you maybe £150- £200. And the rest, well, just look about at the prices.
