Title: ignition timing Post by pedropedro on May 19th, 2006, 5:11pm engine pinks ...how do you retard the ignition please??? i understand it involves changing a jumper on a connector somewhere its ok on premium fuel ...was ok prior to head gasket change when head was skimmed so i assume compression is higher any advice would be appreciated |

Title: Re: ignition timing Post by pedropedro on May 20th, 2006, 8:28am tks ...i know the ECU adjusts and corrects the timing but when the compression has changed its calculations are wrong there's a way of changing a resistor linking two wires going from the cpm i believe to retard the adjustment |

Title: Re: ignition timing Post by Octavian_P on May 20th, 2006, 8:32am Just leave the battery dissconnected (don't forget the radio code) for a few hours so that the ecu will reset, after that in the first 8 miles (or km) it will "re-learn" the engine functions. You don't need to put resistors or other things. |

Title: Re: ignition timing Post by pedropedro on May 20th, 2006, 8:58am how long does the battery need be disconnected ? when you say hours... 2 hours? |

Title: Re: ignition timing Post by Octavian_P on May 22nd, 2006, 11:20am In general it resets in a few minutes, but to be sure that it losses all the timing, fueling tables, over an hour should be ok, after that the engine will behave un-normally for the first km / miles, until it learns it's functions. You cand eaven help him learn better by, using different driving styles. |
