Title: checking gearbox oil Post by irratic on Jun 4th, 2006, 6:10pm i no this is a stupid question......run engine till hot. up and down threw gears.... wait a couple of minutes.. dip oil says low. wipe it redip it , it says high????????is this oil splashing up the dip tube while the engine is running???? if you wipe the dipstick and leave it in it for a couple of minutes it says low when checked... which is the true reading??? don't want to overfill the box.... |

Title: Re: checking gearbox oil Post by scorpio_man on Jun 4th, 2006, 9:05pm hi there don't think you need too wait. i just check it after wiping it, as in dipstick out>wipe>back in> out and check. this is after cycling the gears 3 times each. should be at the max after this check. i do fill it with the engine off, though. :-/ |

Title: Re: checking gearbox oil Post by proberjohn on Jun 9th, 2006, 6:27pm I have exactly the same here. But it was so after the fluid was changed by the local autobox workshop so I presume it's the right level. I also check it cold with the engine not running which level is normally just above the full level. I added a wee drop of fluid and that then made me worried that it's now too high so as long as its between the marks on the first dip I'm happy. |
