Title: MOT - Cracked Headlamp glass
Post by SteveS on Jun 9th, 2006, 8:48pm
Hi Chaps,

Does a cracked headlamp glass cause an MOT failure as long as the lights still function etc?

Cheers,
SteveS.

Thanks Scorpio-Man,

The web site says....

Lights - condition, operation, security and correct colour. The headlamps will also be checked to see if the aim is correct

Which is quite ambiguous as to "condition".... If the crack isn't dangerous, it doesn't leak and it works perfectley then you could say "the condition is good".... at least that is what I am hoping for.

Cheers,
SteveS.

My old MK1 Granny has had a crack in the headlamp since I've had it (9 years) & it's never failed on that.
Plus...my Scorp passed it's last MOT with a smashed (& I mean... smashed!) front fog lamp.
Good luck ;)

A front fog lamp is not obligatory that is why it was passed.

round our way the rule on lights is if its fitted & wired it has to work

i had 2 yellow driving lights on my 4x4 the tester tried to fail it as they never came on till i pointed out they were not wired

Chaps,

She failed the MOT mainly on emissions but the Headlight wasn't mentioned even in a warning.

now then steve good to here that it works as for the emmisions with it being stood for so long it might just need a good run out to clear all the built up carbon it is just a thought tho

You could be right about the "good run"..... but the problem with that is a good long run with a bit of right foot down on a car with no MOT or TAX.... Bit of a risk but might just be needed...

A good 10 mile trip with Sport mode engaged i think should do it. Or just reving it on neutral....

if you can get your hands on a set of trade plates you could take it on a run failing that book it in a test centre further away because as long as it is booked in you are safe from the law
