Title: Trailer indicator Flasher on dash
Post by slave_aureus on Jun 18th, 2006, 12:10am
Dear All

When I bought my Ford Scorpio 2.0 N reg, I had a Ford Scorpio Tow Bar and the Ford Scorpio Electrics kit installed which should have tripped the lamp on the dash to show the trailer indicators are flashing, its not though the trailer works fine, but I have no idea other than my outset checks as to whether they are flashing.

Any ideas anyones ??

I appreciate all your help

I may be wrong, but I think it has something to do with the flasher relay....I will have a look back and see if there was an answer to this one previously...or someone else will be here who knows!

scanned through lots of items on here up to about 40 of the 150, I cant see any others having this problem, I cant be the only Tower, Towing is a grand challenge.
Must be a reason why the lamp on the dash dont flash when the trailers indicating as I had to the proper scorpio loom at about £170 cost.

its not a scorpio but my freelander has a trailer light on the dash and this only works if you use a land rover loom and as baz said a different flasher relay.

OK,

found what I was looking for.

I have fitting instructions for 8 different variations of the towing loom. All the part numbers are very similar but there are essentially 2 different types.

K95GX15A416AA
(Saloon) This kit comes with 2 relays and one external socket. One is for the charger circuit and the 2nd one replaces the relay situated under the cowling of the steering column and this is what makes the dashboard light flash

K95GX15A416BA
(Saloon) This kit comes with 2 relays and one external socket. One is for the charger circuit and the 2nd one replaces the relay situated under the cowling of the steering column and this is what makes the dashboard light flash

K95GX15A416CA
This kit comes with no relays at all and would be used for the towing of a simple trailer where a charging circuit and indication that the trailer lights are flashing is not essential

K95GX15A416DA
(Saloon) This kit comes with 2 relays and two external sockets.

K95GX15A416EA
(Estate) Again like the first one comes with 2 relays and one external socket.

K95GX15A416FA
(Estate) Again comes with 2 relays and one external socket.

K95GX15A416GA
(Estate)This last one has no relays and no external socket. Again would be used for trailer towing rather than caravan towing

K95GX15A416HA
(Estate) This kit comes with 2 relays and two external sockets.

I have the fitting instructions as pdf files. If you want one of them, send me a pm

Please don't think that having all this information makes me an anorak!!

Right, so basically it needs a different flasher relay which can control the dash light?  Interested because I have a towbar too and the light don't flash - also it's a legal requirement to have either a flashing light or a beeper to let you know the trailer indicators are working.

dear Darren & all

Yes I know its supposed to be a legal requirtement another reason for fixing it, I have seen the rtealy on the back of the car with the Ford Scorpio tow electrics loom, as it picks up from both sides, the relay is actually on the nearside rear lamps.

so must be a lead that goes forwards to the front somewhere??

Not from what I can see. The relay replaces the one already in place under the steering column shroud

I pulled my flasher relay out yesterday to have a look (with the aid of a small mirror).  There's only three terminals on the relay and the socket so how the blue/white wire attaches I've no idea.  The PDF definately shows that wire connecting to the relay so I can only assume the 'towing' version has an additional connector on it's casing.  Also I've located the blue/white wire and it seems to loop and then disappear back into the loom.  One day I'll investigate further but I've got more pressing things at the moment!  ::)
