Title: Engine Coolant Light
Post by DJWerkz on Jun 22nd, 2006, 2:17pm
The last couple of days when I drive off the engine coolant light has been staying on.  It only remains on for about 3 miles then goes off and does not come back on again until the car has been standing for some time.

The car is parked on a slight slope on our drive, but it's hardly anything and I've tried parking fowards and reverse way in but it does not make any difference.  The coolant level is spot on and I'm not losing any water so I presume this is some kind of electrical fault.

Is this a fault others have found?

I just had that with mine, when parking on a slope at work. Eventually got the car on the flat and checked the water level and it was midway between min and max, topped it up and been ok, light not been back on since. I am now monitoring the situation to see if I may have a leak.

The float switch in the reservoir sticking possibly while the vehicle is stationary at a slight angle?

Don't forget the coolant will expand as it heats up so the level will actually rise - this is why it goes off after a few miles and doesn't come on again until the engine has cooled down.  Simple solution is to top up the coolant to the 'max' mark (with engine cold) and that should cure it.
