Title: 2.0 8v engine
Post by PepperCossi on Jun 28th, 2006, 7:34pm
Hi everyone,im still on the look out for a scorpio estate. Found one in nice condition but i dont know a thing about the 2.0 8v engine! Are they worth avoiding or no worse than any other scorpio engine? Thanks for any help.

Same engine as used in the previous Granadas and later Sierras I think.  No real problems with the engine itself but it's likely to be underpowered, especially considering the car is rated to tow 2T!

Having said that, 8V engines tend to be more torquey at low revs compared to 16V engines which need revving to get the most from them...

I think my 24V starter motor has got more power than an 8V engine  ;D

Wasnt the 8valve related to the pinto engine? If so it should do an ok job definately not as good as the 16valve but certainly steady and reliable.

No, totally differen design I'm afraid.  However the 16V is very similar to the 8v DOHC...

I agree though, the pinto engines were nigh on indestructible (even following an engine fire it ran fine once all the molten plastics and HT leads had been replaced!)
