Title: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 1st, 2006, 5:35pm I put the car thro my usual carwash on Monday. It's an IMO moving car type wash and I had "The Works". On exiting I noted that the windscreen was wax streaked as it often is after the car wash and so didn't unduly worry as I thought I would be able to clean it later. Haven't used the car all week and on preparing it today for the Bridge of Allan show tomorrow I found that nothing I did would move the wax streaks off the screen. The visibility is almost too bad to drive it. Took it back to the carwash "never seen anything like it, not our fault, etc" and they couldn't get it clean. Tried all normal windsreen cleaners, Halfords Intensive Windscreen cleaner, household cleaners, white spirit, etc. It's only the windscreen and only where the wipers sweep!!! Where the marks are the screen feels rough. Any ideas anyone - or else its a new screen!! John B. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by scorpio_man on Jul 1st, 2006, 5:46pm hi john WD-40? it's good at getting tar of the body. then a good wash down. try not to get it on the bodywork as it will take the wax off ( i know that's what you're trying to do! ;)) hth |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 1st, 2006, 8:11pm T-Cut - now you're frightening me!! Washing-up liquid, vinegar, LOC (remember Amway?), neat screencleaner, all failed. Might not make BoA tomorrow :( |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by scorpio_man on Jul 1st, 2006, 8:18pm hi john i've got fast glass. you could try that tomorrow. have you tried your cleaning stuff with one of the kitchen srubber (green or white) pad things (same thing you can use in the breather pipe end in the air filter housing). hth |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by mr._floppy on Jul 1st, 2006, 8:21pm I'm not being funny but if it's a wax based deposit on your windscreen have you tried hot water plus detergent or, even better, a high pressure hot steam cleaner? |
||
Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 1st, 2006, 8:49pm I'll try the hot water - it's suggested in some of the other threads I've been hunting down. The car has been thro this wash many times before but this may be the first time it's had "The Works" which includes a Hot Wax!!. Thanks. Andrew I may not be a BoA tomorrow - or may come down with the Probe if I can arrange the swap with the organisers - but bring the Fast Glass plse!! |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 1st, 2006, 9:59pm Hot water with detergent and scouring cloth tried ...............and failed :'( :'( :'( >:( >:( >:( I reckon it's a trip to Autoglass on Monday to see what they can do and a new screen if they can't do anything. Oh woe is me. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by jonnycab on Jul 2nd, 2006, 12:44am I find that Mer (yes the car polish) cleans glass up a treat :) |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by Snoopy on Jul 2nd, 2006, 7:03am One of the best things to clean glass with is neat crean surface cleaner like "cif" . if that does not work then try meths ! |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by scorpio_man on Jul 2nd, 2006, 7:56am hi john another thing is acetone. you can get it in the chemist for a couple of quid. keep it away from the wipers, ect. hth |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by mr._floppy on Jul 2nd, 2006, 9:31am Hopefully your car insurance will cover the windscreen replacement ( as it were'nt your fault it was ruined ) . Remember get the full heated screen replacement :-* |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by Matt on Jul 2nd, 2006, 9:32am hi have you tried a product called screenies? they are like little face wipe things and come in a blue packet, they are really good at shifting the greese and other grime that builds up on the inside of the car windows, maybe the'll shift the wax matt |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 2nd, 2006, 5:10pm Ciff and scouring cloth also failed - nothing is touching it - it seems etched in so I'll be off to Autoglass tomorrow - and yes I too hope that the insurance will cover it as it was accidentally damaged even if not broken. But my windscreen excess is still £100. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll post what the outcome is. John B. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 4th, 2006, 2:42pm Windscreen replaced this morning. Looks ok other than damage to trim fixings, etc. Now to try to claim back some of the £100 excess from the ARC car wash. Autoglass call centre tell me that they've had a few similarly damaged windscreens in the past three of four months!!! John B. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by Paulus on Jul 4th, 2006, 3:06pm Give 'em some grief. It sounds like they've got their chemicals mixed incorrectly. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by Simmo on Jul 4th, 2006, 3:10pm Try their web site. A phone call might do the trick. http://www.arc-carwash.co.uk/gb/. (I assume this is the same company). All their sites are listed and they invite you to contact them if you are not satisfied with their service. |

Title: Re: Windscreen Post by proberjohn on Jul 4th, 2006, 5:50pm Thanks guys - I'm on the case. Just found the heated windscreen bottom connectors were remade using MASKING TAPE - guys coming tomorrow to remove the side trims and remake the top connections properly!! P.S anyone know how to remove the A Pillar top trim clip - the bit that is into the pillar?? |
