Title: Knocking On Steering Wheel
Post by Voorhees on Jul 2nd, 2006, 4:15pm
Hey Guys

I seem to have a loud clunking noise when on full lock driving slow. Say if I reverese it will do a loud clunk and it will be fine again. Doesnt do it when driving or turning corners normally. Only when driving slow as in parking etc.

I have also noticed if I turn the steering wheel from left to right, theres seems to be a tiny bit of play in it.

Im hoping its not the steering rack. I have locked under the bonnet and under the car. Nothing seems to be leaking.

Thanks for any help.

Almost forgot its a 96 2.9 12V

Hi there

Thanks for the reply. Im hearing the knock maybe on the steering itself or maybe the front left. Bit hard to tell. So would that still be the read C V joint?

Best  to   check  the   usual  suspects  for   wear,

  Steering  track  rod  ends,

Lower   wishbone   bushes   and    ball  joints

Is there  free  play   in  the steering   wheel  in the straight
   ahead  position  ( engine off ) ?
