Title: PLEASE HELP! Scorpio wont start - needles eratic!
Post by Keithj on Jul 7th, 2006, 8:31am
Hi,

My scorpio estate won't start! all that happens is the needles fly over to the right and it says the doors are open the bonnet is open etc! there is no clicking or anything either! ???

Does anybody know what this could be? It was fine, I went down the road to the shop for 10 minutes and when I got back in to start it, it wouldn't go!  :o

Any help would be much appretiated!

Ok, I'll have to get that checked out...

Oh, could that be the reason for my cruise control not working aswell? or does that point it to the fuses?

Just a thought... :-/

Thanks for the info though fordcos, I have checked the connections and they seem fine, I will see about the battery asap!

Do your external lights work?

I think they do, but it's still down the road now so I can't check right now, what does it mean if they do / don't?

Well if you haven't got any headlights or they are dim or the car horn makes a little meep linked to flickering needles, would add to the likelihood that it may be a flat battery. If the battery is in good shape you have other problems, checking battery condition is a good place to start.

If indicators headlight horn and wipers and other electrics work fine then you may have other electrical problems that could simply be connection, starter switch, ignition circuit, fuse/relay related.

But first check the battery.

Have you followed this link of the main site? http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

Ps Is there a battery cover on your car?

Geoff

Now I can take it to get the climate control fixed ::)

Keith, Be sure to read this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm and make sure the new unit is the correct capacity. These cars need a very heavy duty battery and going for 'cheap' or lower capacity will be false economy should you be tempted down that road.

Hi, battery is now fitted, it's the proper battery (the bloke that fit it is my son - in - law) and he got it at trade price cos he works at a garage  ;D

All sorted now, I'm off to get a new compressor and a re-gas for my climate control (now I know that's not going to be cheap! :-[)
