Title: o/d gearbox problem Post by irratic on Jul 16th, 2006, 2:18pm i've been at this box for two months and various garages ... when you drive its ok for about 6 miles then the revs go up and you loose drive and the o/d flashes... turn ignition off and back on you get drive back again for another 5 to 6 miles... and it keeps doing it.. had quotes from gearbox re-build to second hand box......guess what... pulled the two fan fuses and its stopped doing it.. runs as sweet as anyhting... my question is.. what connection is there between the fans and fuses and the gearbox?????? |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by nuttyscorp on Jul 16th, 2006, 2:34pm probably water ingress in the fusebox, possibly a loose connection on the fuse box. does the fuse box appear dry? do the battery and fuseboxes have there relevant covers? Russ |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by irratic on Jul 16th, 2006, 2:48pm went threw the water thing 2 months ago mate.. laced the fuse boxes with wd... still made no difference. fuse boxes seem dry....put the fan fuses back in and the gearbox plays up... it could just be a coincident but so far so good...beats me |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by irratic on Jul 16th, 2006, 5:40pm 2.0l 16v ..1995...checked multiplugs.. had it upon ramps ..checked wiring as best you can in situ.... it still drives and changes gear fine..... but what has the fan wiring got to do with the gearbox...????? i've checked wiring diagrams . still cant explain it |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by scorpio_man on Jul 16th, 2006, 7:18pm hi there have you checked the main loom connectors? 2 boxes with 10mm nuts. are you only getting 3rd gear and not just locking up? might be a temp sensor issue. :-/ have you had the car scanned? hth |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by irratic on Jul 16th, 2006, 9:41pm had the card scanned with autobox specialist. told me no2 solenoid and an oil seal.. £450 for him to do it..pulled the fuses .saved 450 quid... yes, checked the multiplugs and none of the wiring insulation seems to have gone hard or crumbly.....going to run it for a bit then put the fuses back in ... just see if its a fluke... been out all day in it, not a problem... |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by hellblue on Jul 16th, 2006, 10:13pm hi what happens if you leave the fuses in & remove the fan relay? or unplug the fans? does the problem happen when the fans come on, ie a/c on or with engine temp as fan control is via the PCM. |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by irratic on Jul 17th, 2006, 4:03pm good question. i am obviously going to pursue this now... but as i no people on here have had problrems with O/D and gearbox.. i was wondering if anyone else could try it ... i will of course put the fuses back and pull the relay and disconect the fans.. QUESTION: does the info from the pcm to the fans go from the pcm to the relay and then to the fans??? or from the temp sensor to the fuses to the pcm ???ie is it a pre pcm problem or a post pcm problem |

Title: Re: o/d gearbox problem Post by hellblue on Jul 17th, 2006, 9:49pm As you say others seem to have had this kinda problem, have never seen any pcm, ecu, ecm, etc. wiring diagrams anywhere, but the scorpio seems to feed the pcm with info from both coolant sensor & a/c, the pcm then turns on/off the fans as needed via the relay. the fuses you pulled may also feed other things so by removing the relay you will see if its the fan cicuit or not, good luck............ |
