Title: Cosworth's rear swaying when accelerating Post by Cosray - The Hague - Holland on Jul 21st, 2006, 12:46pm When accelerating my Cosworth the rear tends to sway to the right, as if it has steering properties! Next the car starts to sway and rock which at 50-100 miles is not funny. This is amplified carrying 3 pasengers, probably because I am generating more power then. Breaking hard is OK and straight. New tyres sice 1/2 year; pressured according to manual. I did not have a chance to look under the car yet. Is this caused by a bad shock? A bad bearing? Had one rear bearing replaced last year. Rubbers? Bushing? Heard a squeaking noise some weeks ago from the rearleft; thought it was a hanging brakepad. Is this related? Any clues before I see Ford on Monday? Ray |

Like the Flintstones?? Are they pedalling? ;D Sounds like a bush away on the arm, causing a slight toe out on the wheels |

Title: Re: Cosworth's rear swaying when accelerating Post by howiedintheplace on Jul 22nd, 2006, 11:57pm Things to check. Wheel bearings, arm bushes onto cross member, diff mount to floor & crossmember to floor. If any one of the above items has worn then it will cause you problem. |

Title: Re: Cosworth's rear swaying when accelerating Post by Cosray - The Hague - Holland on Jul 24th, 2006, 9:45pm Yes, it was the left rear wheel bearing that's gone. It had worn so much the wheel could be moved 1-2 centimetres sideways, causing the swaying. The swaying had also worn the brake pads, as these, when braking, tried to straighten and align the wheel. It required a new bearing kit, a flange, seals, brake pads and other stuff in parts, totalling € 540 including one hour labour as that's fixed for this repair (incl. 19% VAT) One hour of labour these days in our West country costs € 106 incl. VAT. Also it seemed to have worn the tyre very much while swaying; must have a look at that later and replace it. Recap: Squeaking sound (instead of a rumbling, humming sound) + wandering of the rear when accelerating = worn bearings. Be quick about it! |
