Title: Air-Con weirdness Post by Penguin on Jul 24th, 2006, 3:27pm Okay here is the latest chapter of my air-con (SATC with mod) which I am pleased to say is now working correctly, but nobody is quite sure why. Initially - about a month ago - I posted stating that the air-con was functionning fine but only over a certain speed (what that speed was tended to depend on the outside temperature - the higher the outside temp the faster I needed to be going). The replies that came back were variations on fan broken, pressure switch cutting out et cetera. So before I went on holiday I took it my garage and said find problem and fix. Garage opened it up, look around, say "can't see anything wrong but the gas is low" topped up the gas and added a leak tracer. This made the air con a tiny bit colder when working but it didn't solve the above problem. So early last week I took it off to an aircon specialist who opened it up looked around and said "can't see anything wrong but the gas is low" - at which point I said "then it must be leaking because it was re-gassed only a month ago" so the specialist hunts around for a leak and says "no there's no sign of a leak, there just isn't enough gas in it - hold on a mo" and procedes to re-gas it again and says "try that." I then get in the car and turn it on and to my surprise it blows cold immediately - which because of the speed problem it never did when the car wasn't moving. So I pay the specialist his due and he tells me "if it does go warm again immediately then there IS a leak so bring it back" but thus far it hasn't done that and is now working perfectly. Which leads me to wonder if my own garaged stuffed up the recharge? It wouldn't be like them, they're generally very good. Or did they use the wrong type of gas? (Is there a right type of gas?) ??? Anyone got any ideas what happened? Cheers Penguin |

Title: Re: Air-Con weirdness Post by Simmo on Jul 24th, 2006, 5:08pm Read this carefully. Could it be that the 'upgrade' sticker regarding the quantity is wrong?. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acrecharge.htm. |

Title: Re: Air-Con weirdness Post by mr._floppy on Jul 24th, 2006, 7:08pm Air-Con re-gassing is a very technical procedure and some outfits advertise their expertise at it but are, in truth, just not up to it. With even basic run- arounds having Air-Con these days, the wide boys of the garage trade have been given a heaven sent opportunity to fleece the ever gullable motoring public ( yeah us, again :'( ) . I've found LSUK to be very reliable and always guarantee their work. |
