Post by irratic on Jul 24th, 2006, 8:32pm
abs light was on all the time.. metered the sensors.. one was open circuit. changed it . light is still on... do i have to get the light put out by computer or does it go out  as soon as the fault is rectified??? in other words could i have cured it? but the light is stuck on or do i have another fault???

Unfortunately you seem to have another problem.

There seem to be different cures for the putting the ABS light out. Sometimes it does need to be cleared by diagnostic equipment, however some members have found that the light will go out when you start driving it, and some have cleared it by leaving the battery disconnected for a while.

An hour should usually do the trick, but it probably won't hurt to leave it over the night. (Remember to have your radio code handy when you connect the battery again)

i'll leave it off overnight... will the light go straight out after the abs self test or will i have to drive it to see if ive cured the problem..

That all depends. I think members have seen both happening, so it's probably a "try and see" thing.

Btw, don't be alarmed if the car has a rough idle and running when you re-connect the battery. That's normal b/c of the ECU needing to relearn settings. Give it a few miles and it should run smoothly again.
