Title: abs self testing ?
Post by bootiful-scorpios on Aug 1st, 2006, 7:01pm
today while breaking it feels as if the abs is coming on at breaking nr to the stop position ie light breaking , thought it was the the system testing it self , but it have done it on each stop of the day.

when a scorp do a self test do it just do it the once , then car should be back to normal? or ........... ???

there is no abs light on in car , and when turn on the ignition the abs light in dash goes out with in 3 seconds as normal .

First of all when turning ignition on a static test is done if all ok to the brain the light will go out.

When you start moving a rolling test  is carried out if the light comes on after this test then it is more than likely that a sensor or sensors have failed.

As you said it only does these tests once on startup move.

yes this is were im confused , while break pedal is vibrating under foot ther is no light warning coming on

and while breaking heavy the breaking is ok
its as you get closer to the stop point (ie rd junction etc) it vibrates and feel like  wheels  are  locking up  but still no abs light , what can this mean?

Title: /now the abs lights are on

:'(  :'( now took car out for another spin to see if break prob have sorted it self out , and no it havent the abs lights are on now and wont go out , dose this now mean its the abs it self rather than 1 of the 4 sensor?

It proabably is a sensor, Ford dealers can run a diagnostic & tell you where the problem lies.

hi,you just had brakes looked at so it could be rust bits stuck on the sensors this will cause the sensor to send signal to abs cos it thinks the wheel  is not turning thus you get the vibs up the peddle as abs is working.

The    light  on   the   dash    doesn't   come  on   when   the   ABS   system   is  activated .

However,  the  light   should  stay   on  after   start  up  if   the  ABS  system  is   faulty
