Title: Outside air temp
Post by jonnycab on Aug 9th, 2006, 11:24pm
My outside temp reading on the dash seems to have thrown a wobbly.
Today it was reading a normal 24 degrees C. Earlier this evening I started the engine & noticed the amber frost light was illuminated & the temp reading was 4 degrees C. I've just got home & it has crept up to 6.5 degrees C, clearly still too low.

Has anyone else had this problem, & was it a simple case of replacing the sensor? Or is there a more sinister reason why this should happen?

Global warming instead of global closing?? Everyone blames everything else on global warming!

Probably the sensor pulling a thingyy.... under the front valance near the oil cooler, same as the ones on the Granadas too!

I've got a working one of these if you need a replacement (96  estate but I think they are the same.

Cheers Chaps for the offer, but it seems to be working fine again.
It was probably just having an off day ;)

My 24v shows similar behaviour. By replacing various parts now I have deduced it's the instrument cluster's electronics playing funny. Sometimes it even will show the red * snowflake in summer.

Also my instrument cluster's trip computer will not work in summer and fine in winter... though the keyboard's resistors are fine. I am working on a fix for this.

Bad news is the electronics for these functions cannot be replaced on the cluster; you'd need a new/other one. Since there are some 19 varieties -- make sure you get the one for your car. Read the enlightening : http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm  and do the tests!

Thanks for the advice Ray, but as everything else works as it should on the instrument cluster, then I am not suspecting this.
I am pretty sure it is the sensor, as it has been fine since I (blindly) fiddled with the sensor & wires going into it. ;)
