Title: 2.0l auto gearbox prob.Help please!! Post by stuartellis on Aug 12th, 2006, 11:20am Hi just wondered if any one could help. I have a problem with my gearbox ,it takes five to ten minutes to engage top gear. Once it does engage top gear, the gearbox works perfectly for the rest of my journey. There is no niose, slipping or any other problems with the box. Could it be the sensor that controls forth gear ? seemingly the speedo tells the sensor that it is time to change from third to forth gear. Any advice would be much apprieciated thanks Stuart |

Post by Dave2302 on Aug 13th, 2006, 3:53pm Also some models dont engage until engine is up to temperature, so if thermostat is stuck open or missing this could cause problem. Watch temperature gauge in relation to when it finds top gear. regards Dave. |

Maybe better going to an Auto Specialist. |

I stumbled across the fault by pure accident.the brake pedal went solid under braking and i found the small plastic pipe to be broken between the servo and the air intake.after replacing the pipe the brakes were ok and ALSO the gearbox is perfect????i pulled out the pipe again and drove the car,once again top gear would not engage.seems crazy i know but its cured. :) |

Post by scorpio_man on Aug 26th, 2006, 9:26am hi there i'm available most sunday mornings (10am/11am). usually meet up in pub carpark at the end on the m74. leave m74 (end) on the outside lane. take 2nd exit off roundabout, staying in outside lane. turn right at the lights (outside lane). 2nd exit at small roundabout (mcdonalds). carpark is just behind them. let me know if you want to meet up. |

Post by stuartellis on Sep 1st, 2006, 4:17pm DILEMA TIME!garage says the car needs a new gearbox and convertor,costing £1000!the car is in very good nic but i refuse to pay that kind of money to fix it.so was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying the car if they have a box to put in it?would rather give it to someone on the site than give it to the scrappy.bloody wheels alone cost me £600.other than the box and a small leak in the fuel tank,its a great running car.hope someone can help,and at the same time get themselves a bargain, STUART |
