Title: Mpg Hell Post by Zombie on Aug 14th, 2006, 8:22pm Oh Woe Woe is me! I thought that replacing the dstributer arm and cap and the plugs! would help my 20MPG problems. But the engine is so much more revvy and fun, that I am compelled to race Passat driving reps and nova driving chavs off the lights. Beat em every time! My MPG is down to 17 now! This is just bad news! Time to trade Gollum in for a Toyota Prius :-[ |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Geoff_W on Aug 14th, 2006, 10:57pm A 2.9 I assume. On my 12 valve A4ld I have found that selecting 3 around town improves mpg by about 10%, talking with Baz before he got shot down over Paris :o he and I think it may be down to the box not hunting for a better gear. I was used to high twenties low thirties on the 16v but am bumbling along at about 21 to 24 in the 12valve Ok read the road ahead drive smoothly and pump up those tyres (which incidentally only cost about as much as a tank of gas) Dave what are you averaging?? Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Snoopy on Aug 15th, 2006, 7:05am My average overall is in the low 20's between 21-23 but on a good run it gets up to 28/29 but i never reset mine until today when I put a new battery on .. the old one is starting to fail and after 5 1/2 years I must not complain ... I suppose around town if I was to look it would be mid to high teens will check if you want me to . |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Kjetil S on Aug 15th, 2006, 3:07pm I think the 2.0 is "underpowered" because of people not knowing how to drive it. If you keep it above 3000rpm and preferably above 4000, it pulls like a train, however it seriously lacks low end torque. When I drive mine, I keep it the lowest possible gear until I reach cruising speed, then I change to 5th (or 4th if it's below 55km/h). |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Geoff_W on Aug 15th, 2006, 4:52pm Yup the 2.0 litre needs to be revved a bit ;) |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by mr._floppy on Aug 15th, 2006, 7:04pm Indeed, when overtaking on kickdown, the 2Lt only really kicks bum when over 3500 rpm. Does anyone elses car have a heartstopping lag when you floor it before it eventually goes from 3rd to 2nd ? or is it better just to whack the selector into 2nd ? |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Geoff_W on Aug 15th, 2006, 8:59pm Mr Floppy, Based on my memories of a 2.0 mk3 hoyk it down into 2nd as long as the box is comfortable with that you will fairly nip along ;D |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Geoff_W on Aug 15th, 2006, 9:01pm Hopefully the stick wont get to waggily if its an auto but if you have a scandinavian manual (or a british one for that matter) do a bit of rowing up and down the box and the RS2000 engine will do you proud 8) |

Title: Re: Mpg Hell Post by Octavian_P on Aug 16th, 2006, 7:55am My 2.3 has a real grunt starting at 2000 rpm ;D .....but after 3000 it acts like it's been turbocharged ;D |
