Title: Front wishbones Post by sterio on Aug 29th, 2006, 6:34pm I have a klonking sound in the front suspension and have found that its the front left wishbone. Is it possible to change only the 2 bushings front/back or do I have to change the hole wishbone. I planning to leve the work to a Ford service shop. What can I expect to pay? Thanks Dave |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:02pm buy new wishbones its easier than changing the bushes in my opinion, but if you are getting someone to do the job they will give you a price, parts and labour |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:05pm this clonking sound you sure its the wishbones and not the droplink on the antiroll bar |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:07pm the droplinks are about £30 each, bit better than wishbones |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by sterio on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:11pm I have changed the link-arms on both sides 1 year ago. When I lift the car up and turn the wheel left/right I can see the rear bushing moving. I suppose that is the problem? Should I be able to move the bushing? |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:17pm there is some movement but see if the thick rubber fin inside the rear bush is split these are about £13 each i think and its a job thats easlily done buy yourself. |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:23pm oh just had a memory recall mot tester did my 2ltr told me the bottom ball joint was kn..kered and that gave the knocking sound ...turned out it was the inner ball joint on the steering rack.you can get this from fmd as i found out,you dont need a new rack just the knowledge on how to replace it |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by sterio on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:26pm The inner one is fine! But the rear is the problem. Maybe the rubber fin? |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by solarpanel on Aug 29th, 2006, 7:32pm the inner joint is the one in the steering rack gator on the track rod bar [you know which one i mean] |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by Simmo on Aug 29th, 2006, 8:13pm If it is the large rear bush it is a diy job or a simple job for a garage. If there is movement you will get a 'clonking' noise. The anti roll bar bushes if worn will also add to the problem. These are simple to do and a garage with a hoist etc should do the job within two hours max. The rear bush should not move at all. |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by Kjetil S on Aug 29th, 2006, 8:19pm Me and my old man did the anti roll bar links in a good hour, didn't even take the wheels off. You just jack both sides of the car up and replace them. Easy ;D The bushes are also done in a couple of hours. |

Title: Re: Front wishbones Post by mr._floppy on Aug 30th, 2006, 12:04am In my experience, replace the rear wishbone bushes ( £15) first ( it's possible to do it without removing the wishbone ) and if this makes no difference then replace the complete wishbone ( c. £100). Just replacing the front rubber bush ( £5) on the wishbone is a task so difficult and time consuming as to be not worth considering. |
