Hi I'm new here, so be gentle with me :)

My 2 ltr '96 Scorpio has an automatic transmission problem. Sometimes it changes gear OK but more and more the only way I can get it to change is to relax the throttle and wait for it to pop in. The mechanic here in Bucharest (I'm English but live in Romania) has improved things a little with new fluid, cleaning etc. but says I need to get an A4LDE overhaul pack (gaskets etc). I can get an A4LD but not the E one plus I had a look on the net and found that the transmission on the 2.0 ltr Scorpio is shown as 4R44E and not A4LDE, the latter being until 1995 I have been told.

Any advice welcome.

Well, it sounds like you need the box reconditioned, you're going in the right direction with the service kit. It was the brake bands with mine but the faults became far more brutal than you describe but I too used to have to ease off the gas to let it 'gently' into 3rd :).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the A4LDE was fitted to all bug eye Scorpios except the 2.9 12v and TD, I'd imagine the A4LD overhaul kit is what you are looking for.

Thanks Bruce. Apparently the E on the end of the code stands for Electronic as opposed to the A4LD which is for the hydraulic version. I assume therefore the A4LD pack would be no use but I wonder if anyone can advise further.

Hello olltwit, i also live in Bucharest, I can give you an addres of a (ex)-ford-main dealer which is verry nice and prompt and does anything it it's power to get scorpio bits....maybe he can help with a kit, i will also search for some automatic transmision repair center.

PS: sorry to be a bit off topic, we have club-meetings (ford...not only scorp)...maybe you could join (the club), and talk about our beasts ;)

Wow, great, yes please, an address would be brilliant. I have a ford trained guy who will overhaul it for 200 euros which I thought sounded good. It's just the pack I need. When's the next club meeting, I'd like to try and come along?

Also i know a person there which is verry nice to me, and always tries to short out the waiting times, and gives me some discounts when possible. If you want we cand meet and i'll take you to him.

The club meeting is taking place this week, on friday 15.09.2006 in the (Constitution Square) Piata Constitutiei. The meeting starts at 19.00 but some people (like me) work til 20.00 (but i'll try to leave a bit early)

Thanks so very much Octavian_P. I know exactly where it is as I have visited BDT and found out myself, just how very helpful they are!!! I told them I was English and asked the guy there, in Romanian, if he spoke English as I am just learning Romanian. "Da sigur" was the reply and continued talking away in Romanian. You don't speak English, I replied, to which he said, yes, but you keep talking in Romanian. He then pretty much told me they would charge almost what I paid for the car, to give it a full service.

If Forcar has a big sign outside with 'Ford Transit' on, then I think I went in there to ask where BDT was, as they (BDT) are not on the main road but next to the lake on the industrial estate.

How often do you meet? Friday is my birthday and I will probably be going out with my better half for dinner. I'm in Iancului and my mobile is 0724271518

We meet once a month, but thers no problem if you can't make it out, especially on such ocasion, we'll meet in another date, just us scorpio owners ;)
As for the forcar, last time i went to them they where cleaning out abit the building so they haven't any sign posted.
When we both have time, we can meet and i'll go with you at forcar, till then i'll phone my contact over there and ask him about you problem. My phone no. is 0723.610.485

PS: BDT has a verry bad atitude with it's clients.....

Hello, i have talked to my friend at forcar, he said that he needs the VIN number, and exactly the gaskets you want, because he can bring a lot of kits,.....almoust a full gearbox, he also said it would be better to go to him and talk....he has microcat installed so he can sow you the kits, and you can tell him which you need. Also he told me that the delivery period is about 7-10 days (working ones, so weekends don't count). He eaven gave me an example price of a kit and it was about 2 milion lei (ROL) or 200 (RON) or about 57 euros. But he also said that are other gaskets that are more expensive, it's just a matter of what you need and he'll bring it.

You can phone me any time, if it happens to be at work or in a place that i can't talk, when i'm available i'll call you back.

PS: this week-end i'm leaving town for a small trip to the mountains ;)
