Title: Changing Cylinder Head Gasket
Post by Jimmy on Sep 10th, 2006, 5:17pm
I havent started this project yet but I am reading through the PDF instructions to Remove and Install Cylinder Head (21 164 0)

Whats the angle gauge? shown as special tool on page 00-01-1 and also in use on page 00-01-14.

I changed a head gasket on an Escort about 10 years ago but dont remember anything like an angle gauge!

The top picture on page 00-01-14 shows the two steps for tightening the bolts, I assume do the sequence at 40Nm then do the sequence again at 55Nm this is shown under CAUTION on point 32. Point 33 shows the tightening of the three auxillary head bolts to 38Nm. but the picture with the angle gauge is in between with two boxes showing 90 degrees.

Any help would be appreciated.

many thanks
Jimmy

angle guage is just another method of tightening, you'll find on your new head bolts it will say tighten to so many nm then a further 90 degrees or so, ive never used one for them, just use a torque wrench set to the correct value plus a bit or a bit tommy bar and tighten up till ur wrist clicks  }{ }{
