Title: High Beam
Post by Waglet on Sep 10th, 2006, 5:56pm
Another incident seems every journey in the 24V is filled with problems!! Last night I needed to use the high beam. Put the switch `on` no high beam, pressed the switch a bit harder high beam came on and would not go off! Fellow motorists not happy with me. On arriving home turned everything off High Beam still on. Pulled fuses.....That fixed it. Replaced fuses to day High Beam back on straight away. Is this the switch or a short in the wiring? Any previous experiences on this matter (or ideas) greatly appreciated.

sounds like the switch contacts have work, corroded, then have arc'd and welded to gether, see if you can open the unit up and clean them

Thanks Matt. Job for tomorrow lunch time during `recess` from the work drudgery ;D

how long is your lunch break? i imagine it will take a bit of time as you will need to remove the steering colum trim, then remove the stawk. also, check any relays in the circuit, (hand book will say) might be a bad contact on there.

as for the car, nice, hope urs dont have as many niggly probs (and some big ones) as mine

best of luck

matt :)

Check the main beam relay first (one of mine welded about a year back) but other than that as Matt said :)

Thanks guys. Decided to do it in the cool of the evening due to the incredibly warm weather making a lunchtime effort far to uncomfortable.
Matt:- Yep plenty of aggro with the beast none of them minor!  >:(

Hi Matt,
I removed the cowling (bearing in mind I am not mechanically minded so this kinda car is really out of my league, even tho` this will be my 5th 24V!!) it looks to me that to properly get to indicator/main beam switch the steering wheel might have to come off! So I disconnected the cable and jiggled the wires a bit and thought b****r this I know a mate who is an auto electrician! I`ve put every thing back and for a larf put the fuses back in and the problem has gone! I hate it when that happens because it will come back no doubt as no proper fix or fault was found.
I’ve got to say that this 24 V does not inspire confidence in me like the MK3`s I`ve had. A good one of that shape was impossible to find. Wag
