Title: speedo shoots ound on engine start
Post by the_machine on Sep 10th, 2006, 8:22pm
when i frist start my 24v cossworth, the speedo will shoot round as well as the other instruments, the dash resets all its fuel computer readings and reverts to KM even when set to mph .

as though the system is resetting itself.
battery is ok, its new.

has anyone any ideas, or have you seen this fault before??

are all the battery leads tight ?

is battery getting  charged ? we had all of this on our 24v and did not think it was the battery as it was starting easy , but it was .

Battery, I'd bet my life on it :)

If it's new, is it healthy and is it the correct rating?

Regards, Bruce.

I had the same problem recently; mine was a flat battery due to a faulty alternator. If its the altenator I took a chance and got a s/h one for £25 plus postage on ebay and it all works fine now.

As above mate go get your battery and alternator tested, my money if the battery is new is on the alternator being defective keap your old battery it may be good if the alternator is duff.

I had this problem until I discovered that the previous owner had fitted an under rated battery. Fitted correct battery--no more problem :)

Cadnium (calsium) batteries seem to be the order of the day as far as the Scorpio is concerned. Anything less is insufficient :)
