hello,
another fault developed on the way back from the mot station today.
The steering has started juddering but only when i turn the steering wheel to the right.
It's similar to the cattle grid rumble when driving only not so much vibration.
If I turn the wheel to the left or turn it to the right very slowly it is ok.

Is this bad?
It's just failed the mot on rear chassis corrosion under the suspension arms on both sides, 2 tyres and the wash wipe button failed.

this is the first time i have noticed any steering judder but there has been a bit of a rattle underneath for a while.

I'm really trying to decide quickly if this is going to be worth MOTing or if the end has come.
(i was quoted maximum £200 for the welding)

Vehicle is 'P' 2.0 16v ghia estate

i had similar with mine recently, the cattle grid effect but only under braking, changed the front discs, problem sorted.

this is definitley steering, as it also does it when parked and just turning the steering wheel

i dont know much about steering but if you turn full lock when stationary its normal with power steering to get a wobble/judder as you approach full lock.
i would think if the steering fluid was low/leaking you would get more of a grinding when turning either way.
possibly wheel bearings i spose....but i would of thought that would be more constant.
see what other members say, i think most of em know a lot more about the steering than me......

The judder is normal, it happens every time the car is lift up, the front wheels extend and somethin happens with the servo system, it takes air. To cure the problem just find a patch of grass, or put some newspapers under the front wheels, take the cap off the steering fluid jar, rev the engine to about 1500 rpm and make 3-4 complet left-right turns....after that it will be ok... ;)

I'm glad i could help, don't scarp it, i know it's a pain in the.....b@t sometimes, but it also can be one heck of a rewarding piece of technology ;)
