Title: Clutch overhaul
Post by Kjetil S on Sep 11th, 2006, 10:54pm
The slave cylinder on my clutch seems to have packed up, so it's probably time to do a complete overhaul of the clutch.

Have anyone had the MT75 and the clutch out, and how much work is it to change the clutch plates and bearing/cylinder? Any tips?

I've had a look at the pdf's at the site, but I would still like to hear from someone who has actually done it.

Not done one on the scorpio but its much like any other rear wheel drive.one thing to note is that when you put the box back in DO NOT let the box hang when its not all the way home as you may bend the clutch plate centre & the noise you get will p**s you off !! easy done if doing it at home on the floor. Mark the propshaft so you can put it back on the same way to axle

Yep, done it a few months ago

Replacing the clutch plates once its apart is a 5 minute job (remember to use the alignment tool), the release bearing is 3 10mm bolts holding it on. Once you've replaced the release bearing assembly you bleed it once its all back together.

I have finally got the gearbox and clutch out, and I was slightly surprised when small bits and pieces started to fall out when dismantling.  :o

Here's some pictures of the old and new clutch:

I think I can safely say that it was about time to change it  ;D

Hmm, more bad news it seems. According to my dad there is a bush or similar between the gearbox and the engine supporting the gearbox axle. This has about 5mm play in it.

Does anyone know if this is replaceable? Haven't had time to have a look myself yet.

In the centre of the flywheel, yes. Probably spigot bearing then.

I was hoping to get the car back on the road tomorrow or monday, but seems like I can forget that  :-/

:o :o :o
Did you feel any problems with the clutch other than the slave cylinder packing up ???

Turbine noise from the gearbox.. Probably the gearbox shaft knocking around at a 1000 rpm or more..
So I would recommend everybody who experiences heavy turbine noise from the box to take it out and have a look.

Getting 'er done till the weekend looks promising. Can't imagine the clutch getting any WORSE now, so  ;D

Even found some loose bolts on the exhaust manifold when I was under, so perhaps it'll cure the rough idle when cold ;D
Did a check on the EGR valve and that was operating nicely. Opened and closed as it should.

Oh, and cleaned the connectors to the reverse switch and VSS (which were full of engine oil), so maybe the rev. light and speedo will work again now.

Finally!

Silky smooth gear changes again  ;D

Still have a rear wheel bearing which needs to be replaced, but will do that tomorrow.

No more turbine noise from the gear box either.
