Title: Matrix advice required
Post by xr6i on Oct 3rd, 2006, 5:35pm
Hello everyone, ive got a (ford/m = fixed or repaired daily/monthy) 2.9 12v v6, and the heater matrix is trickling out water when engine is switched off. ive got a nice puddle of water on the passenger floor.

A friend told me that years ago he had a ford Corsair and his matrix pee`d it out, so he used radweld (the orange colour with the slime stuff in) and he said it cured his bad leek.

Well im now off to put some in anyway, but-

*Has anyone used this stuff in a scorpio and does it work, if so did it work long, as im considering selling mine.

Otherwise im going to have to strip the dashboard to get at the matrix.   (i must be mad).

Well done ford for not inventing a disassembling bulk head or even putting it elsewhere like the old cortinas were.

I wouldn't touch Radweld or anything related, they seem to cause more problems than they solve :)

Yup, the only way to get at the matrix is to pull the dash out and they're not cheap/easy to replace then...

Hope this helps, Bruce.

....The MK3 Granada matrix does not fit in the Scorp. The only way to make it fit is to file the holes inside the heater box bigger so the bulbous plastic end will fit through. The Scorp matrix doesn't have a plastic end. :P
Also the scorp matrix is longer & has more veins to make it a more efficient heater. :)

I made the mistake of buying a (cheap £30) granada matrix when I had to change mine. I couldn't get it to fit in the heater box so took it back & got a proper Scorp matrix from FMD.

Also if you have C/C then it is different from the standard A/C one.

I seem to remember that the C/C matrix was £98 + VAT :o

Still a female dog of a job though ::)

Procedure is here......http://fordscorpio.co.uk/matrix.htm

P.S. The job is made easier if you remove the brake pedal, or at least swing it sideways after removing the long pivot bolt. :)

Thanks for the advice, however when i went to my local halfords, i pulled off quite quick and now ive got gearbox trouble. this car is cursed. I will never buy an automatic ford ever again.

I will do a new post re conked out gearbox.

Thats 2 things 2 go wrong in 1 week. fixed or repaired daily. Its living up to its name.

Sorry, I made a mistake. ::)
A genuine Ford Granada/Sierra matrix will fit, it's the cheap pattern ones that say they do, that don't :)

Dont use radweld, use half a teaspoon of nutmeg, yes you read that right, I did not like the hassle of doing the one in my Granada scorpio, not at the moment anyway, worked a treat. I think its used by a maker of a radaitor leak treatment.
