suddenly stopped working today...treid another remote, reprogrammed etc but same problem...its like it has lost power to the solenoid maybe...anyone got any ideas? where do you start with this???

The fact that you've tried two remotes without sucess indicates a fault in the boot electric solenoid.

Does it still open when the metal button on the boot is pressed ?

tks for quick response....no it doesnt work when pressing the button .....only with the key

you cant hear any click to the solenoid when pressing the remote ..its silent

Have you tried a spray of WD 40. Quite often it is the mechanical action which prevents the contacts from making. Lubricate the barrell and see what happens.

where should i lubricate the barrel ?? from the outside ?
where exactly?

not sure i follow how this affects the working of the solenoid

Yes from the outside initially. It may be that the plunger is not able to move quite far enough or easily enough to allow the solenoid to open it.

theres absolutely no sound when the button is pressed
no click of the solenoid trying to operate

is it still possible that there is a mechanical issue with soemthing other than the solenoid

Try the simple thing first. If that doesn't work you'll need to look further at the system. In which case select the appropriate link HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/closuresmanl.htm)

There won't be any click if the solenoid is garmed up and can't move :)

Try what simmo said before you go any further, most of the time these things are easily sorted :).

ok...ive just sprayed a lot of wd40 in around the barrel and pushed many times..no change .....

I agree try the easy route first before delving ...so if there is no improvement ..try looking inside via the boot lining?

On the estate there is a plastic switch that sometimes can come unclipped from the lock, I suppose it must be the same on the saloon :-/

Doesn’t make much difference I suppose, but it’s not a solenoid it’s a motor with make and break contacts inside the case and a couple of gears driving a rack & pinion on the plunger.
Mine stopped working (open) so I couldn’t shut the boot - it was a cracked tooth on a pinion that jammed it.

It could be an electrical fault, for ex. no power reaches the boot lid ....(i happens to me, still couldn't figure out what is wrong)

If you find there is no power to the switch the first place to look is at the loom where the boot hinges are. You need to check the wiring loom inside the outer protective casing as it can become damaged by contact with the hinge. There is a post somewhere which I'll try and find.

success.......boot lock now working

problem was plunger not activating microswitch contacts .....spray of oil on plunger on inside sorted...its a small
movement on the switch activator and the slightest resistance on the plunger makes it fall short
