Title: another gearbox problem!!
Post by Graz on Oct 5th, 2006, 7:19pm
hi i have a 95 scorpio ghia 2.0 16valve auto.
i seem to have a gearbox problem when i select reverse
i get a bit of a donk but the main problem is she will creep backwards on idle no problem but a soon as i give her any gas its sound as if the engine is misfireing and she becomes jerky. No problems in any other gears :-/
the fluid level is spot on, any ideas??????? :)

Have a read through the 'transmission' section HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm). Clean the MAF to start with.

Hi I am a retired auto box man and I posted this problem with my Cosworth Estate a few months ago, but no one seemed to understand what I meant.  Anyway, a wiring loom and a few other bits later, my car is now perfect except for this problem, but mine only does it once in a blue moon, and switching off and re starting will cure it instantly.  However, my theory is this..... The gearbox solenoids share a positive feed with one set of fuel injectors, and when the solenoid is out of range, usually at a cold start, it places an excesive load on the circuit causing half the injectors not to open.  Whenever mine does this problem it always flags a Pressure reg solenoid fault and a reverse engagement error, thus confirming my theory.  Clear any fault codes from yours and then read it next time it does the fault, solenoid changes are not that difficult.  When mine gets to do it more regularly I'll get round to fixing it !!  Hope this helps, regards Dave.

Could still need cleaning. I do mine regularly. Had a look at it the other day and it looked spotless. Still, while I had it removed, I gave it a spray with the old carb cleaner - din't half smooth out the change from 1st - 2nd, didn't even notice it had become rough!

i did top-up the gearbox with auto fluid and went for a test drive...and the box does change up and select much better and smoother, could it have been a low auto box fluid level???...we will have to wait and see.

well even after topping up the gearbox,my daughter has just told me the the problem is still there...and happens at random,so cleaning the maf has made no diffrence,so is it a gearbox problem or wiring??.any thoughts please??..regards..joe-satch.

had a chat with our daughter,we are going to change the gearbox fluid and filter...to see if this helps...will also check over some more of the wiring...then see what happens... :-/.
