Title: bubbles!!
Post by Graz on Oct 10th, 2006, 5:44pm
my darling scorpio has decided to give me another headache :-[ after driving it when i switch off the engine she now decides to chuck coolant out of the expansion tank!! the head gasket was done last year and the head was skimmed. now im thinking mmm compresion leaking into the water  :'( but my mate reckons an airlock
anyone else had simular problem ???

Had this due to over filling. My 24v needs to be just above min when cold and the expansion then puts the level at max when hot. Putting it at much more than min when cold caused the water to pour out when switched off.

Also had an air lock after some work on the cooling system. This caused water to come out when idling in my case.

Cheers  :)

Is it out of the top, as my expansion tank sprung a leak which  only leaked when the engine was off, and only down to the min level. A new tank only cost £13 from Ford, a lot less than I expected.

mine is pushing it out of the overflow pipe :-/

Forgot to mention, another time had an issue with the coolant tank pressure valve in the cap which failed and then allowed water out of the overflow pipe as the cap decided the pressure was too high. New cap from Ford solved that. Might be worth a look.

Could be an airlock....or air getting in :)

When the engine is running, pressure from the water pump will cause any air bubbles to flow around with the coolant until they reach the thermostat. This usually makes the temp gauge behave erratically.

But when the engine is stopped, the air will rise to the highest point (overflow pipe) & force itself out, along with any coolant that is front of it. :)

Could air be getting into the cooling system somewhere :).......water out...air in ::)
