Title: R.I.P.
Post by jonpic46 on Nov 22nd, 2006, 9:03pm
It breaks my Heart to announce the passing away of my Beautiful car.
Everything happened last week. Firstly a Lady (driver) managed to run into the back of me coming up the A1. In pouring rain everyone else on the Motorwasy managed to stop except her. So I had to whisk that into the Body repairers for an Estimate (HOW MUCH ?????????) In the meantime I was doing a run To London on the M11/A406. When all of a sudden the warning indicator for the Oil came on and then she dust died, I am distraught. My son seems to be certain that water is getting into the engine, would that be Gasket or a crack in the Block? Any Theories on this would be very much appreciated.
I am now going to bed and cry myself to sleep,

Goodnight all :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

:( Sorry to hear of your problems.

Have you had a look at the car? What does the oil and water look like? Which engine is it?

I know it's boring but a few more details of your car may help you gain a quicker diagnosis or ideas  from  members.

Year,  Mileage,  Engine size and configuration ,  manual or auto,  Etc. ::)

If it is something like a cracked head, why not pop a new head/engine in if you really like the car?

Hi all
Things are not so good, still not managed to get the engine in for one reason or another,as time goes on I am beginning to fear the worst.Anyway, I have got another one to drive about in ( COSSIE) Is there anything I need to know? Also How does one replace the Sun roof motor? is it a job and a half, or just a job.

I WILL TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY  CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS ( What, with a Cossie) NEW YEAR.

Take care All, JONNO  :D ;D ::)

Congrats on the Cossie! Nice choice  :D

Sunroof motor instructions here:

Doesn't look difficult at all.

Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year too  :)

All the best  :)

Hi All
Things have yet to happen with regards to my engine replacement but will keep you posted.

However maybe one of you could give me some advice on this......

Occasionally (Twice / three times a seek) both my Traction control and my ABS lights come on. Then after a while they go out again . Has any of you got any ideas of why this happens? many thanks.

Jonno

Hi Jonno,

do they come on then go off when you start the car, then come on again when you get above 15mph? If so then there is a good chance that the rear ABS sensors (also work the traction control - hence both warning lights) need cleaning.

Take the wheel off and the ABS sensor is held in the hub by 1 bolt.

Have a look at this page for more details:

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/abssystem.htm

All the best  :)

Hey,

the cossie has quite a solid lump, you'll of probably noticed it rattles a bit on start up, thats just ford using value engineering of the chain tensioners. apart form fule the only real cost in running them (unless something goes wrong) is that it's recommended to change the oil every 6 months or so,  depends on the milage you do. also best to use the best oil you can afford.

a few members on here will tell you that there car has seemed to be running fine but when tinkering around have discovered it's only using 5 cylinders!! check the plugs and keep an eye on the fule gauage!

hope that helps

matt

Cheers, Matt and Dave, for that advice and insight into my Cossie. I have invested in a set of plugs + oil which I plan to do ASAP.

Dave, the warning lights come on at random, not necessarily on start -up.they stay on until the next time I turn the ignition off. Then when I restart the Lady, they don't come on. Anyway, I am going toi check out that address you very kindly gave me.

many thanks, Jonno

Check the main plug to the ABS unit is clean and seating properly. This can give similar faults.

Hi Tony
I live in Norfolk.I am still waiting to have my engine installed,it has been one thing after another, though I hope to have it done in the not too distant future. I have got a Cossie as well as my 2ltr. but driving around in her is costing me more in fuel. Anway, thank you for your message.

It's easy. Undo the 6 or so bolts that hold it in place, unplug the connectors, swap, reconnect, bolt it back.  ;D
