Title: autobox beyond me Post by cscars1 on Nov 29th, 2006, 12:18pm hi i had a problem on my car with the EGR valve , now sorted so i decided to adjust the headlights and give the lens a clean inside the light fine so i went to my local garage and got the lights set properly with a beam setter whilst driving into the garage the car bumped up and down the rolling road " brake tester " i set the head lights to perfect as they only lit the front bumper before i reversed out of the garage up and down the rolling road when i got out side i noticed that the reverse gear was not working and the forward drive was naff too i nursed the car home in second as it felt like clutch slip in drive i left the car overnight and started to cry at the thought of spending several hours changing the gear box BUT the next day the car seems fine . i phoned up the local auto dealer and they said the best way to test the auto box is to reverse up a steep hill if it judders , the box is naff so i went out to test this and it was not juddering so box is ok i phoned the automatic people again and told them thatr the car did not judder in reverse so they said perhaps it was the coil packs on the engine because they are link with the ecu has any one else ever had this problem |

Title: Re: autobox beyond me Post by mr._floppy on Nov 29th, 2006, 5:55pm How long does it take to engage drive when you move the selector from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse ? Longer than 3-4 seconds ?, the box is well past its best. |

Title: Re: autobox beyond me Post by cscars1 on Nov 29th, 2006, 6:30pm it use to snatch into reverse ,but since the loss of gears it goes in straight away and smoothly now on driving it goes up and down the box ok and is smooth when using kick down before it use to rev then go into a lower gear now very smooth in kick down do i wait till it breaks down completely or change it to be on the safe side this is the question i keep asking myself |

Title: Re: autobox beyond me Post by TiberiuS on Nov 29th, 2006, 7:44pm If it's working at the mo I'd let it go for a while and see how it behaves, save yourself a lot of work ;) I'm no autobox expert but on the cars I've known a dying autobox normally means complete loss of gears or heavy gunshot like thumps in and out of gear, if yours is smooth surely the bands and solenoids are ok? It isn't low on fluid is it? Loss of drive/juddering could also be down to this, the symptoms you describe could lay elsewhere outside the box. Dave2302 would know but he's awol for the moment ;) Regards, Bruce. |

Back on the subject of coil packs again eh ;).....I won't be betting anything on it this time though ;D Seriously though, I doubt the coil packs would cause loss of drive in the autobox,....faulty coil packs will usually cause misfire :) |
