Hi all i need your help again.

I am having a few minor issues with my 1996 2.3 manual estate.

The problem being is the car starts first time in the morning and idles fine but as soon as i go to pull away from my house it just seems to hold back and cough splutter and jump down the road as soon as i get 500 yards it runs sweet as a nut.

i have had the inlet manifold replaced to to a crack and i have after reading a few threads on here checked and repaired/replaced some of the engine bay wiring loom around the rear of the engine which all now seems fine this fault was doing it before i did the wiring so i would asume i haven't connected anything incorrectly.

Can anyone offer any advice to what maybe causing the problem and hopefully a cure ??????????? or has anyone got the same problem ????????

Hi Keith, does it do it if you knock it out of gear or dip the clutch?

Misfire? coil pack? HT lead? Spark plug? Fuel mixture?

Hi Bruce
If i knock it out of gear the car just idles fine ,i haven't heard it missfire but it feels like it wants to,also it seems to pull better if i put my foot down a bit but when i slow down coughs and splutters again as i said this lasts for no more than half a mile and as soon as it just warms up a little there is no problem so guess its not a major problem ???? ???

Keith, the reason I say misifre is that I had a similar thing a while back, I'd start the car from cold and it'd feel like it wanted to misfire although it wouldn't, like a rev limiter acting at dile speed if you get me. As soon as it started to warm it'd clear and be fine, was cured when I put the new loom in.

hi there

could be temp sensor problem. the ecu might be fooled into thinking the engine is warm. :-/

check the dash reset for what the sensor is outputting.

Hi Bruce,
Sounds like a very simular thing and the way you have described is pretty dam close,i have checked the wiring around the rear top of the engine and repaired and replaced some of the degraded wiring but is there anything i may have missed ??

Hi Keith, you could try the HT leads as they can start to crack inside with age; if you've put on a new loom and it runs fine the rest of the time it's unlikely to be the loom at fault.

Scorpio man's idea about a bad sensor sounds likely.

i will try dash test thing i guess it is as easy as holding the mileage reset button down for a few secs ?? i better read the idiot proof instructions

right i have just done the dash test and the En9t reading when the engine is cold reads 255 is that about right and was i testing the right thing ??

right i have just taken the car for a drive and when i checked the En9 t when i returned it was reading 149 and the temp gauge was just below half way so i guess that means it is ok ????

I remember the days when I honestly believed lol meant something I would get banned for if I typed it on here ;)

I always joke if someone asks me 'what is lol', I say:

hi all,well seems like no one has any further ideas to why the car is doing what it does ???????? it still doing it so any further info apart from what has already been mentioned would be most helpful .all the best keith
