Title: Fuse box woes
Post by SCORPY_NEWBY on Dec 15th, 2006, 7:36pm
My 1996 ultima td estate decided to pay its respects at my grandmothers funeral by sounding its alarm constantly and turning its lights on. Went back to the car and unlocked it, alarm switched off but lights didn't. Got home and stripped the fuse box which was in a sorry state with rust and corrosion all over the copper circuits, cleaned dried and put back together, fitted it the car with a smug grin that was soon to be wiped off my face >:( Sidelights would only operate at the rear with no brake or reverse lights and no side, dip, main, indicators, hazards or courtesy lights inside and on doors. Will i have to bite the bullett and get another fuse box or have i missed something rediculously stupid. HELP! I've had to borrow my inlaws galaxy and its HORRIBLE!!!! I  :'(need the scorpy back :'(

check the wiring connections, also, a mistake i made that baffled me till someone mentioned it; is the main multiplug seated correctly in the main fuse box? its easy to plug it in incorrectly, make sure the rear lugs are properly seated....

Thanks for that I'll check. Also does anyone know if these problems may all come from one connector under the fuse box or are the circuits all on different connectors?

scorpio electrics are, ahem, notoriously sensitive, especially the bl**dy fuse boxes! i've never rebuilt one, but when i've had the water ingress trouble i've used a hairdryer to dry everything. all i can suggest is check the relative fuses/relays and make sure they're seated properly.

i think lots of us on here have had the multiplug seating scenario....

have you got a battery cover? its one of the most important things to have on a scorp, keeps the water off the aux fuse box....

Yes bought battery cover just after buying the car couple of weeks back. It was stood for 2 years as the owner was scared of the fuse box, got it for £355 off ebay, Best buy ever! even with the dodgy fuse box. Got the dip beam working with new relays but interior light is still awol ???
