Title: Okay what the hell is leaking?
Post by Penguin on Dec 18th, 2006, 6:29pm
As per my previous post "Coolant top ups" I have just checked the car again and it appears not to be coolant after all - the line in the tank is not moving.

So what is leaking - can anyone diagnose this?

The leak is:

1) A watery brownish liquid which is not corrosive and has no particular smell.

2) Comming from the mid-right of the engine.

3) Nothing that I can measure in bottles in the engine bay is showing low, nor is anything in car that depends on one of these liquids not functioning, nor do I have any warning lights. Also engine oil and gear oil are fine.

I was thinking could this just be air-con wash contaminated with dirt? Clear air-con wash seems to come out on the other side almost opposite to where this one.  Are there meant to be two drain holes for this.

Cheers

Penguin

The Scorp was probably just checking you were keeping an eye on everything by giving you a little test  ;)

lol mate, you're not the only one ;)

Sometimes my 2.3 sounds like a sauna after I switch it off...one of the drain pipes is directly over the exhaust manifold...

Sounds plausible,   but why are you using the  air-con  in this  weather ?

You don't live in Australia do you ?

hi there

air con or in the ultima's case, climate control (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/aircon.htm), is to dry the air to make it more comfortable inside the car. as a side effect, it also cools the air. by using the a/c, you don't get steamy windows, thus it's safer to drive with it on all the time.

the only time my a/c is off is when my roof is open or it's below 4 degrees outside.

G'day Mr Floppy mate.

Out here beyond the black stump, we use the aircon all year around to stop the ol' compressor seizing and to keep the windows nice and clear. If you have a mosey through your handbook me old cobber, you'll see it's recommended to use it regular.

With the occasional dingo running across the road it's a bleedin' good idea to have clear windows, bloody oath!

;)

Mines never off either, went a long run at the weekend with the aircon on and completely dried out a mobile that had been dropped in a puddle :)

Always found that leaving the aircon on for too long makes me short of breath...bit like being on an aeroplane  :)

I am slightly asthmatic though.....so if the air is too dry?  :-/

Keep mine on all the time.

Keeps the air nice and fresh, and as the wife has breathing problems it helps to keep her mouth shut too!! ;D  ;D

Makes for very peaceful driving.  :D

hi there

re air con. have you all had an anti bacterial treatment (http://www.wynns.uk.com/contextra/documents/Aircon%20Cleaner.pdf) done to the system? this should be done twice a year when changing the pollen filters. i think that's a bit much, so i do it once a year (at filter change). in between times i squirt in some febreeze anti-bacterial spray though it.
if you don't kill off the bacteria, you can get a thing called 'sick car syndrome ' or 'air con flu'. makes you feel like you have a bad cold, etc, hence the name. ;)

Hi.
You seem to be a mind of information.
So where do you spray it, on/under the pollen filters, have not been there yet.

hi there

i only remember some of what's told to me! ;) but thanks anyway. ;D

re cleaning air con system.... this (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cabinfilters.htm) is for changing the filters. when they are out, just spray the frebreeze all over the evaporator with the fans on but a/c off.

if you use the wynns stuff, it's even easier. just put in in the pass footwell pointing towards just under the dash and follow their instructions. i'd only use this stuff if i was changing the filters.

btw, jetex doesn't supply the spray now, so i've been told.

Top man Andrew, I never dreamed of doing that ;)

Now the car sits around for a few days at a time in this weather it smells a bit stale when I put the fans on, I'll give it a try :).

Regards, Bruce.

never use the a/c myself, i prefer to have the window open an inch, just a tight cow really trying to keep the fuel costs down! i also prefer to hear the outside world, keeps me on my toes more-suppose years of riding on the bike has done this
