Title: Airbag Rattle?
Post by PeteB on Dec 20th, 2006, 12:16pm
Hi, I'm getting a rattle that appears to be coming from my steering column plus my airbag light keeps coming on so I'm betting its this thats causing it ? Is it an easy job to fix this or is it main dealer time :(

Cheers in advance

Pete

hi there

please wait 20mins AFTER disconnecting battery before working on the airbag system

have a look at this (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/airbagmanual.htm) and this (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/airbags.htm).

also check the column for play. i think there's 2 bushes down near the bottom. :-/

Crikey. It may be that something is obviously loose. Have the top and bottom shrouds off (just a couple of screws each IIRC) and see whats what under there  :)

If it is loose on the wheel it is fixed easily. There are a couple of torx screws under the horn/air bag unit which fix it to the wheel. They are at 12 0'clock and 6 o'clock so in order to access them you need to turn the wheel through 90degrees and then they are accessible from either side without removing anything. Try this first.
