Title: Wishbone Bushes & Bump Stops
Post by Johnboy on Dec 21st, 2006, 3:05pm
Going to have a go at changing these over the Christmas and New Year period.
Some advice is needed before i start the job.
I am looking to order the parts from forpartsuk.I am going to fit new bushes on both sides.
Do i need to order two front and two rear bushes or are they the same.
Also, after the service last year the garage wrote on the bottom of the invoice, both bump stops perished.
Has anyone changed these before and if so, what problems if any can i expect.

Thanks

John

The front wishbones rear bush is completely different to those at the front. The rears are a quick easy job and as it happens the most likely to be in need replacement.

Why not just change the rears and whilst fitting them, check the condition of the front ones?

The bump stops on the rear  suspension ?

Mine have gone too,   luckily the MOT tester didn't  spot 'em     ( or ignored 'em,  it's debateable whether they are  part of the MOT anyway.)

Not cheap, £20 each,  fiddly  to fit   though,  if you've got nimble  thin  fingers and some  soapy water  you can   fit them    through  the  expanded  coils  of the rear  springs.

Not very difficult to fit, large screwdriver helped as well. 5 minutes each. Not part of MOT so not a safety concern., but FMC don't fit them to look nice.

The bump stops   tend to rot as  the  trailing arm spring  cavity   fills   with mucky water.

Make sure the drain holes  are  clear.

Thanks Jim and Mr floppy, for your advice.
I presume it's the bump stops on the rear suspension.
It was noted on the last service, as a job for the future as a precaution.
Are there any bump stops on the front suspension  ???

Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.

Happy Motoring

John
