Title: High tickover & Rad fans on full pelt
Post by jonnycab on Dec 22nd, 2006, 3:32am
I've noticed over the last couple of days....since it's been really cold.....that if I pull up & put the Scorp in 'Park' then the revs (sometimes) go to about 1100rpm & the rad fans run at full speed.

If I rev the engine then the rpm drops to the normal 750 & the rad fans can't be heard.

The ECT was new a few months ago, so it can't be that.

Temp guage is slap bang in the middle & coolant level is fine.

I checked the dash diagnostic & the engine temp was 88 degrees at tickover.

Thought about a sticky throttle, checked it, & throttle seems fine.

Can't work out why the rad fans would come on high when the tickover is 1100rpm, but go off when revving & idle drops to 750 rpm  ???

Any ideas, anyone ?  :)

hi there

two ways to go with this one.

to me, it sounds like a low pressure issue with the a/c (if it was on at the time ;)). when was it last regased? to give you an idea, both fans will run at high speed to protect the system at low pressures.

the other way.
wiring and idle valve.

check all connections to the fans making sure the wires/plugs to both fans aren't stretched. check the connections to the fan relay (big green one on the inner wing). check the loom connection 'boxes' (10mm nut/bolt on them, inner wing). check fuse boxes for dampness.

give the idle valve a good clean out with carb cleaner as well as the the throttle body (http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/HowDoI/Howdoi.html).

Had similar fault with mine with the high tickover, couldn't get rid of mine by revving engine however. i cleaned the maf and reseated the TPS plug and touch wood hasn't happened again since.
Guy.
