Title: Weird lights/wipers crossover fault Post by adowds on Dec 22nd, 2006, 4:20pm Hey everyone, Finally getting the 24v Scorp ready for MOT after many weeks sorting engine loom, vacuum hoses etc. Now there's a weird problem - when I turn the headlight switch on, the front washer pump runs briefly. The self-park function is gone on the wipers, and the intermittent wipe doesn't work either. Clearly there's some connection/relay/fuse/earth point that's ruining things. Any ideas where would be good to check first? Hope we're all having a top christmas... Al |

Title: Re: Weird lights/wipers crossover fault Post by adowds on Dec 30th, 2006, 2:17pm Lads lads lads... Spent this morning faffing with it along with my leccy engineer mate. The problem has changed slightly, but essentially it is this: Wiper stalk doesn't work in normal or fast wiper speed position. Nothing happens. Washer button makes the wipers do the three strokes thing, but there's no washer pump operation. When you put the stalk in intermittent position, the wipers work in normal mode - i.e. not intermittent, just constantly operating at normal speed. ALSO When you switch the headlights from dip to sidelights, the wipers do the 'three strokes' washer button function thing. Again, no washer pump operation. This is all very interesting. but it's stopping me getting a MOT so has the car totally off the road... I've checked visually the main fusebox and it all looks clean and dry. Had the relevant fuses and relays in and out and they all seem okay. I suspect an earth point - the two systems share earth point G5 according to the wiring diagrams - anyone know where this is? Other suggestion is a failed washer pump causing a short to earth - how do you access the washer pump? Thanks for your time... Al |

But when i stripped the boxes down both had a bit of water in them and corrosion was bridging a few circuits and messing things up. Takes a couple of hours to do but is very satisfying in the end especially the money saving part ;D |

Title: Re: Weird lights/wipers crossover fault Post by SCORPY_NEWBY on Dec 30th, 2006, 10:32pm Battery side is easiest, Undo the battery first then remove the two ten mil bolts in front of the fuse box and lift up then remove the thirteen mil nut for the positive feed once done you should be able to remove all the plugs below. Looks daunting but is actually quite straight forward. The main fuse box is a little awkward. Remove the light and carpet from the drivers footwell, Just above the accelerator you should see a small square of sound deadening material remove this and you will see quite a few plugs, Once disconected remove the four eight mil nuts that hold the box in place from inside the car. Before removing the box take a picture of the fuse and relay placements as you will have to remove a couple of relays for the fuse box to slide out underneath the wiper regulator. Once removed try to keep everything in order ( i used tipex to mark the layers ) and you should get on fine :) Have fun ;D |

I have replaced the entire engine loom, but I'm pretty sure I have reconnected everything I took off. But oddlien only posted twice and never mentioned if/how he sorted it... Have pmed him but I guess he's not on the forum any more. It'd be good to find earth point G5 - anyone any idea how to track it down? Or could I connect a new earth to the washer pump wiring as an experiment? Cheers lads and lasses, Al |

Wipers still operate from the headlight switch with the pump disconnected too, hmmm. Got to investigate further tomorrow, with some fly leads to see if it's the earth or the 12v side that's playing up... |

Still the same problem. Must be fusebox or earths I reckon. Going to try giving direct live and earth feeds alternately tomorrow to experiment and narrow down the problem. |
