Title: Soggy Fusebox
Post by Zombie on Jan 3rd, 2007, 7:11pm
After some torrential rain on New Years eve, my car aint working.

I turned the ignition on and the sunroof opened, stereo came on, speedo needles danced and fans came on. Despite the fans being off and no faceplate on the stereo.

Wet fuse box!

I have dried the fuse boxes out with a hair drier and reset the ECU.  All I get is a ticking noise that is probably the solonoid, but the engine does not turn over.

I think I need new fuse boxes.  Before go down this road, are any other items, such as the ECU likely to have been fried?

The battery is probably flat, have you tried charging/replacing it?

Its bleedin raining again now, so I am stuck for another day.  ???

So the engine WAS turning over ok before the battery went flat?? I assumed from your first post the battery was dead.

Before buying fuseboxes etc I'd charge the battery  or replace it as a partially charged battery can turn the engine over quickly  but not fire it up.

No, all turning the key in the ignition has done, since the rain, is make the blowers come on (even though they are switched off) and other random electrical things.

There is no sign of the engine turning over, just that loud ticking noise.  The battery was new when I got the car and is only losing charge after two days of trying to start the car.

I am a bit gutted, I expected the gearbox to go wrong, but that just needed more fluid, and I had to re-set the ECU after an electical storm after an AA man could not get the car going one time.  I have kept dodging expensive bullets up to now.  I love the big stupid gas guzzling thing!

I will leave it till we get some dry weather.
