Title: ABS Problem
Post by nodge on Jan 4th, 2007, 10:59am
My 2.3 Scorp has just failed the MOT with a non working ABS system.  The ABS light used to come on every now and then in damp and wet weather but a few months ago it stayed on all the time. I didn't realise it was required to be working for the MOT so I never did anything about it. I've looked through the ABS pages on the main site and passed on any info to the garage. They say they've checked all the wiring & connectors and all ok. They've done a scan and got error code C1095 - ABS Hydraulic Pump Motor Circuit Failure, which they say means it's the control module on the ABS pump. So far I've been unable to source a 2nd hand pump matching my part no 966GG-2M110-AA. (Still looking though if anyone's got one).  I've been told about a firm called BBA Reman who do reconditioned ABS stuff and they will supply just the control unit but even that is about £300. If I can't get my hands on a 2nd hand one this is looking my best option though. If I do fork out £300 I'd like to be pretty sure it's going to fix the problem. I suppose what I'm asking is does that error code definitely point to the pump control module or could it still be a bad connection somewhere which I understand is a more common cause of ABS problems.

Thanks

Nodge

I’m also getting this code, I had trouble with the ABS the week before my MOT (didn’t have an ABS reader at the time so don’t know if I had that code then).
I found when I got it working if I moved the wires leading to the controller the light came back on. I cleaned the connectors and all was OK for about 30 miles till I went over a speed bump & the light came on.
I tried another controller which I know was OK but the light stayed on.
I went to change the controller back but couldn’t get one of the screws out, so gave the screw a clout with a hammer, no luck but now the ABS worked.
Got the car through the MOT, 30 miles later & another speed bump & it packed up again.
Haven’t had chance to sort it, but I suspect wiring not the controller on mine.
Mines a teves 20 unit.
I’ve found that the codes do clear if everything is OK, but not till the car’s been driven above the test speed.
I think someone said BBA will test the controller for you, I think it was about £50.

hi there

copied from the mailing list..........

Hi Andrew,

C1095 is the old favourite. We've almost exclusively found it to be generated by a faulty control module, although occasionally it has been caused by a loom problem going to the module. Most folk have cleared it by fitting a second hand module from a breaker.

I've just checked the link you gave, and the symptoms described were similar to other owners - an intermittent fault at first, then constant. This code makes the abs fail the 15mph test, but should still pass the power-on self check. In other words, the light goes out a few seconds after the ignition is turned on, but comes back on at 15 mph (ish). This being the case, "nodge" has been unlucky to fail an mot. My car passed with this fault, and I know several others that have. Someone may know the specific MOT requirement, but I thought as long as the light went out it was ok. Maybe it's not?

ATB,
MarkP

My ABS light comes on with the ignition and stays on - at least 99% of the time. Oddly enough today it went out and then came on again at 15mph but that's the first time I've noticed it do that. Looks like I've sourced another pump with the same number as mine so that's a start at least.

My Scorp developed the same problem read the codes said pump inop, hard wired pump working ok still gave code changed abs ecu still same problem.

Replaced pump, moulator & ecu with reconditioned unit from bba reman still same pump low pressure. I am awaiting another unit from bba, personally speaking i would not use them again.

I had the same problem with my 2.3. I had an auto electrician around and he got the code for the pump/modulator unit.
I managed to get a unit from a scrappy and fitted it (meant bleeding the whole brake system) and all was then well and passed MOT OK and ABS works fine.

The car has since died and i got myself a Cossie so i have the unit you want with no codes guaranteed, still fitted to the car and i intend to break it.

I managed to get hold of a secondhand pump c/w with controller which the garage fitted (the complete pump) and it cured the problem and the car has now got an MOT  :)

Thanks to all who offered help.

£20 for the pump and £80 to fit it.  I could probably have saved a bit on the labour costs by just replacing the control unit but the pump looked in better nick than the one on the car so I thought I'd replace the whole thing. Considering Ford charge £944 for a new pump  }{ I'm pretty happy with the result.

Not too shabby then. Did mine myself for a tenner and 2 hours labour but did have to pay £35 for the diagnostic.

I also get the intermittent ABS warning light, but it's usually when the weather changes (I could try explaining to the MOT tester that it doubles up as a barometer!?) and nearly always preceeded by the light buzzing and pulsing pedal as I'm braking which leads me to believe it's a wheel sensor.  Switch off the ignition, back on again and get above 15mph has never failed to cure it though...

Interestingly, my cossie has the early Teves MK7 controller, and ever since i replaced the rear hub a couple of months ago, the brake pedal pushes back against my foot EVERY time i pull up to a stop.
No probs with the operation of the ABS and no warning light AND it was fine on the MOT too.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
