Title: Sticky steering
Post by Penguin on Jan 8th, 2007, 1:10am
Just for a second today, with car just having been (warm) started, the steering wheel turned about turn and a half to the left (with the car stationary as I was trying to get out of a parking space) and then wouldn't turn any further.  With a bit more presure it carried on turning as normal.

In the thirty miles I've done since there hasn't been any problem and the car has steered quite normally.

I've just had the power steering system drained and refilled (and the resevoir hose changed (because it was leaking)).

Is this just something related to that, or the start of something worse - I wouldn't want the steering to cease up at speed...

Cheers

Maybe the  ribbed  drive  belt   is   slipping  causing  a  temporary  episode   of  heavy     steering.

Put front wheels on a couple of magazines and turn back and forth to full lock a couple of times. This should clear any air from the system that may have been left from the work that was carried out.

Done that, and the problem hasn't repeated. That should be that then.  Thank you!
