Title: tyre wear Post by gary1 on Jan 8th, 2007, 11:49am Hi all I hope sombody can help with my problem.I got a punchure in the front drivers side tyre and when i examined the tyre the inside of the tyre was very worn with the metal cable showing through. The rest of the tyre had plenty of tread on it.I checked the nearside front tyre and that is prefect with no tread loss.Has anybody experienced a problem like this before. Title: Re: tyre wear Post by Geoff_W on Jan 8th, 2007, 12:07pm Well uneven tyre wear can be about adjustment, has the car clipped a kerb or traffic island at some point? When you get the tyre changed you could do with getting the tracking checked |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by gary1 on Jan 8th, 2007, 12:21pm Hi Geoff I have not clipped the kerb or hit anything. The tracking was done when the tyres were fitted.Would the tracking being out cause only one tyre to wear on the inside. Gary It is a 2.3 estate 1997 205x65x15 goodyear nct3 touring tyres. |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by gary1 on Jan 8th, 2007, 12:51pm Hi Highlander Not sure as it is now raining cats and dogs down here. I have noticed from your responce to many other people that you are quite a expert on the scorpio so would the wishbone bushes be the cause of my problem. Gary |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by scorpio_man on Jan 8th, 2007, 2:07pm hi there could be the bushes or the ball joint (you need a new w/bone, if this is the case). the scorpio's tracking can be ok on the m/c, but miles out when 'on the road'. this points to the ball joint, imo. new w/bones are about £120. :( |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by Highlander on Jan 8th, 2007, 2:22pm Never! ;D Just an informed guess ;) Its normally one of the above or a combination, but try those first |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by gary1 on Jan 8th, 2007, 2:35pm Hi all Thanks for all your replies . I will check the bushes first just like highlander said and then the ball joint.I hope it is just the bushes cos £120 for a wishbone makes me go oh s--t. many thanks to you all. Gary |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by mr._floppy on Jan 8th, 2007, 6:13pm The tracking would need to be set to extreme toe - out setting, by a huge margin, to cause wear down to the carcass wire ( unless you spend all day driving round in a circle ) . Sounds like wishbone trouble. |

Title: Re: tyre wear Post by gary1 on Jan 9th, 2007, 5:01pm Hi all I checked the wishbone bushes and the ball joint this morning and all looked ok. The bushes showed no sign of wear and the ball joint still moved when the car was jacked up. What i did notice was when i straightened up the inside wheel the outside wheel was out of line by about 1 inch approx. Would this be down to the tracking and there fore cause the tyre to wear on the inside only. Gary |
