Title: Dipped LH beam not working
Post by fastflyer99 on Jan 18th, 2007, 4:59pm
Nearside dipped beam isn't working, and it's not the bulb.  Have checked the fuse (F5, 10A) and that's fine too.  All other lights on the car are working.

I'll have another look tomorrow, but I wonder if anybody has experience of this problem.  Bad earth?  Sidelight's working though.  Perhaps a dirty connector?

If you give me any tips, it would be much appreciated.  Of course, I need to go out tonight, and it's my only transport  :-[ b****r.

Thanks, Mark

hi there

best to check all the fuses as the lights are covered by quite a few different fuses!

Thanks - I'll have another look at the fuses tomorrow.  I'm wondering whether it might be the relay, but that depends on whether it has separate contacts for each dipped beam I 'spose....  Anybody know?

I could hook up the high beam wires to the dips for now to get me going, couldn't I.  Nothing like a bit of bodgery... ;)

Another member had a similar problme recently, turned out to be a bad earth on the loom. If you have a multimeter you can check for voltage at the connector and for the presence of the earth connection...

Hope this helps.

Regards, Bruce :).

The earth is common to main, dip and side - so doubt this is a problem if main is OK. Check for volts on the plug, with the plug off the lamp. 12v with no load might suggest a poor connection somewhere. Also check the spade connector on the end of the wire is clean, with signs of overheating. As main is not live unless main is on, it will not help much to bridge across to that.

Thanks Harry - I need to get out there with my multimeter and start tracing don't I.  Off topic, but M1BYT sounds like an amateur radio callsign to me, mine is G6DOD, although I think its just lapsed (again).

I'll post up again when (or even if...) I find the problem.
