As the title suggests, my alarm has now decided it'll be fun to go off whenever it feels like it.

First had a problem yesterday as I deadlocked the car (by remote). As it locked, the alarm sounded immediately. Stopped it by operating the key lock, and played with it a few more times (by remote again) in the street I was leaving it. All seemed fine.

We then did the usual Saturday stuff, shopping, Sainsbury's, that kind of thing. Then, once home and with hands full of shopping and using that one spare finger to operate the remote, it did the same 'alarm sounding when locking' thing.

It seemed to settle again in the same fashion as before. But last night, it went off late at night. I didn't hear it but a neighbour did. Apparently the alarm stopped after a bit, but the indicators carried on. "You might find you have a flat battery now" he said. Now that would not surprise me. What did surprise me though, was that the car started first time this morning, not even flicking needles! :o

Anyway... enough story telling. I guess this is the good old bonnet switch playing up (I know its an old favourite).

So I tapped it with my fingers and it moves. But how much should it move?
I can pull it up much higher than it will spring, but I think that might be too much. Shall I take it off and clean things up, or should I get a new one? :-/

Should move about 15-20 mm .

Could easily be one of the other 5 switches ( or their wiring ) playing up ( 4 door and 1 boot ).
To stop the earache, disconnect the alarm horn, it's situated behind the battery.

A good idea also is to give each door lock,boot and bonnet switch a dose of WD40. Sometimes the locks are not fully engaging through lack of use,rear doors for example, and they are just not making a full contact.

odds on favourite is the bonnet switch.

you can take it out, it justs unclips, prise the rubber sleeve from the base and wash with wd40. the funs statrs trying the reattach the sleeve......this is only a short term fix though. Best get a known working 1 from the boys on here......

A temporary fix to give you some peace, would be to disconnect the alarm horn at the rear of the battery. Another way would to to put a wire link across the bonnet sensor, at least proving that is the one causing the problems.

Actually, things appear to have settled down now. I'm not going to play about with this too much if I can help it.
I think playing with the plunger must have helped ::)
