i have got a rumble coming from the back to the front, it was only at high speed but noticed it to day at about 30mph also does it under load when you kick it down.

bearing in mind the gearbox has just been removed for a new gear selector switch to be put in, could it be the prop shaft not been put back in properly..........

also i have a spaire prop, is it easy to do and does it have to be lined up correctly how would you do it...........

Always had a rumble on my Scorpio at around 40 mph where the coneveter locks up and at 50 in overdrive, found on the site at the time that it was most likely a propshaft bearing. Never got any worse and I used to keep the car out of overdrive until 60mph anyway, was one of those jobs I intended to do but never got around to...

Used to rumble if I gave it throttle, the torque of the engine I guess. Solution: Good excuse to keep it in Sport mode ;D ;)

the box is well ER...........................

it still revs when changing between 3rd to 4th, i have spoken to the garage and they are going to be picking it up again soon

My 2.3 started doing this revving trick recently, I must confess I've been driving around it. Sorry to hijack the thread, but does it indicate a big problem?

She's going in for a service at the beginning of Feb' please can you advice on what I might tell my friendly neighbourhood mechanic?

Geoff, I believe some people have linked it to the MAF and the VSS but slipping in gear at speed is not nice for the autobox {}

If it slips at speed then it sounds to me like bands. I altered my driving style completely to make mine behave, position 2 in traffic with light feathered throttle movements, ease off the throttle when going into 3rd, coast around on idle until it warmed up fully...never, never use full throttle for the first 10 miles of a journey...yes, I lived like that for over a year...

Just nice to have a car now where I can put my foot down on a clear road without fearing 'BANG' 'WALLOP' or flashing lamps...well, except the blue ones behind ;D

IT sounds like wickedteen has the same thing going on. It's not slipping so much as it "blips" up a bout 2/300 rpm when changing from 3rd to 4th.

The rest of the time it behaves itself, when saying I "drive around" it, I lift off the accelerator in 3rd and it drops into 4th without the "blip".

it may not be the maf or vss like i said mine are brand new, plug your in car in first see what codes you get back

Thanks, but there's no "cattle-grid" effect, no vibration. It's a definate rise in rpm of 200 to 300 between 3rd & 4th.

well my car went back in today for the slipping, they drove into the garage and i got a nail in the tyre which they wont replace, so im £65 out of pocket straight away, then they adjusted the bands by turning a bolt on the side of the gearbox, i took it away got my tyre fixed, then all of a sudden it raced from 300 revs to 500 revs whilst changing from 2nd into 3rd and you know what its going back tomorrow morning for them to have another look at it.............

I've got a good local bloke, been seeing to my previous Mondeo for the 3 years since I came off the lease car scheme at work.

If anyone needs a decent and honest mechanic in South Manchester, I'll happily put them in touch.
