Hi, I have a wierd problem with the bagage door. I have a scorpio 2.0 Combi (family car) Whenever i close the trunk door the electronick lock "unlocks" it again leaving it open and "unsecured" (like if I have pushed the button to open) so if I drive around I am in the risc of my bagage trunk door open completely and any bagage load flying out of my car.

This is the only door behaving like this.
I have no idea on how to start troubleshooting this, or where to start and are hoping for some suggestions.

Also to add, judging by the look of the lock on the back trunk it seems someone has tryed to break into the car or pick the lock, maby with a screwdriver or something, My key still works in the lock, but can it be that the lock is somehow "shortcut" or broken and needs replacing in order to fix my problem ?

If I slam the bagage door maby 6-10 times it will lock and stay locked.

hi there

take the interior trim off and give the lock a spray with WD40 oil. most of the time the 'white disc' is needing cleaned.

For the time being You could try unplugging the lock wiring multi-plugs. This disables the solenoid and lock motor, and the tailgate can only be opened with the key.

Update.
I am not sure why nut now suddenly i cant unlock the trunk with my key, and if i press in the lock nothing happends. I now have to open the trunk from the inside.

I will try what scorpio_man suggested, maby it will help

The Granada had a problem when it rained heavy, of water seeping in across the unlock contacts via the lock barrel/hole in the body. It would then spontainiously unlock itself at random. Could this be a part of the problem?

There is an electrical problem that can cause this that I've had before.

The wiring for the boot/trunk lock (and other stuff like the lights) follows the boot hinges so that every time you open the boot/trunk the wires get bent. Eventually they break and start shorting with each other - off and on.

The best thing is to:

1. Find the spot where the break has happened
2. Cut all the wires and remake them
3. Make sure the wires are not tightly fixed to the hinge so the same thing doesn't happen again

Sounds like your Boot/trunk ( I'm unsure whether your car is a saloon or an estate/station wagon ) electromechanical actuator is shot.

When you press the button the actuator pushrod pushes the mechanical lock linkage and unlocks the car , the actuator pushrod should then return to its start position, if it doesn't, then the car boot will not close ( a problem I had recently ) .

The actuator is also fitted to the Ford Mondeo so it should be easy to pick one up from a breakers yard.

Sorry for latching onto this problem but something has started to occur the boot on my saloon - sounds very similar to Terje's issue. I just wonder which point above would solve the problem.

Ever since I have had the Scorpio, shutting the boot has been a bit of a case of timing - you can hear this whirring noise, like the actuator is continuing to try to open the boot as the boot lid swings from closed to open or other way round. Of course - trying to shut the thing - I have to wait until the actuator stops whirring. Never been a problem to me as it always did stop the whirring and the boot can then be closed.

What's happened recently - the bloody thing has started having a mind of its own - like opening whilst driving along. Never had this issue before.

The only thing I can think of, which kicked this more serious issue off - I recently had to remove the boot trim on the nearside where all the wires feed from and feed up the nearside boot hinge. When I replaced the trim, the actuator start whirring incessantly and eventually stopped. When a moved the wires near the hinge, it started whirring again. So I provoked this by moving the loom with my hand and the whirring started - I wonder if this is what is causing the boot to open.

So do you guys think it is the actuator which is at fault or is it the wiring near the hinge shorting ? I am tempted for the latter since I seem to be able to provoke this problem from "wiggling" the wires around. But then, should the tail lights on the boot also start flashing haphazardly ?

Any advice you can give would be fantastic.

Daren, There is a known problem with the wiring being damaged by the offside boot hinge. You need to remove the outer covering from the loom and then you will probably find one or more of the wires fractured. Repair the offending wire and then make sure the loom is secured out of reach of the hinge.
