Looking at the soft alloy on my ultima cosworth how do I get the wheels off, I know it sounds silly but it seems to have a outer plate with what looks like tork screws and then a rubber slotted part. Do I remove this and then find the nuts behind it? and then carry on as normal? Also no locking socket supplied with car, does that mean that there is no need or its missing.

The Torx looking units are I believe blanks. The circular cover is removed by inserting a 'key' in what I imagine you are describing as the slotted part but those who have such wheels will no doubt tell you more. ;)

the cover is held on with a bolt that uses a special key, like a three pronged key, you,ll need this to access the wheel nuts underneath. it is like a plastic "t"key.

hi there

yes, you need a 3 peg 'key for the cover (you can use pointed pliers as well).

there should be a locking nut on the wheel as a well. :-/

once you take the cover off you may need the locking socket adaptor. lets hope the previous owner never fitted locking nuts. good luck.

Local Fords told me today that if I do have lock nut fitted they will remove FOC ;D

I've had my Cosworth Ultima from new in 1998 and it never had a locking wheel nut on any wheel. The procedure is as described by big_neil.

Well got one cover off last night poor old pliers nearly died (is it worth getting hold of the T toll if it is still available, if so do Ford still supply) and no lock nuts so can now proceed to whip wheels of and check ABS sensor/s

security "T" tools are all different ,suggest you take the security nut you have removed into ford and get a key to fit , or a new set of nuts with a new key tool, don,t think they will be too dear.

ordered the tool today at local Fords, it is listed as a kit so assume it is 4 bolts and T tool £17 so not that bad.

hey chieftain,,,invest in a set of locking wheel nuts while your there, dont want some muppet getting your caps off then nicking your twelve spokes wheels do yah!

4 new bolts and 2 new keys well done mr Ford, yes lock nuts fitted as well now.
