Title: New Scorp Queries
Post by PeteB on Feb 12th, 2007, 5:18pm
Hi,

Well here is my new scorp:

http://www.rbowley.plus.com/scorptd.jpg

Its a 2.5 TD Ultima, although it has no heated front screen or onboard computer but Its better than nothing, bonus having the face lift front bumper (The car is an M Reg).

However it does have the following faults, which I'm hoping to rectify by removing bits from my old scorp:

The LCD display on one of the CC controls is dead can this be swopped with the ones from the panel in my old one ?

The rear view mirror seems to be "ghosting" can these be swopped easily ?

The ABS light is on in the TD but functioning correctly, is there a quick fix to remove the sensor from the other car ?

And how easy is it to change the drivers seat as my "new" one is very worn :(

Sorry to bombard with so many questions but the yard where my old one is stored will be wanting to get rid soon  :'(

Thanks Again

Pete

The seat details are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/interior/seat/fseatassyhi.pdf).  I'm told they are very heavy so be prepared. The mirror comes off with a downward tug keeping it in line with the screen. Do NOT attempt to pull it up and in towards the interior light or the screen will go. Go to THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm) page and scroll down to 'interior concerns' follow the links re the internal mirror. If it shows signs of 'failure' get it off straight away befor it causes damage.

All of those questions can be answered with a very simple YES.

Iall interchangeable but take care getting the CC display (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/aircon/controlpanel.pdf) out it hooks into the right hand side as you look at it and there are four little plastic clips.

Drivers seat there are five bolts holding the whole frame on and two or three cable connections to unplug and re plug in .....

rear view mirror (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pcmirror.htm) does sound as though it is about to loose the "fluid" and that can be disastrous on the plastic trim if it does let go...

ABS sensors can be a bit of a P1G to get out and have a tendancy to break. they cost about £70 new from FMD but with care and loads of patience it can be achieved.

take as many of the little things of the old car as you are able to they take up very little storage and can come in at a later date. things like relays, fuses and drive belts ...

What about the wheels of the other one as well? OR swoop them over the 12spokes always do look better but the 15inch tyres are a lot cheaper to replace.

Good luck.

Blimey Pete, that was quick mate :D

The climate control displays in my 2.3 used to die from time to time as the RDS7000 display did, might be worth waiting a while and see if it springs into life :). You can prise the cc panel out from your old car if you aren't worried about damaging the fascia.

Ditto with Mike on the rear view mirror, mine never worked but looked inert enough, never had any bubbles or oily film appear on it, if you get any sign of liquid it's a good plan to remove it before it leaks all over the centre console :)

Good luck.

Regards, Bruce.

Pete, car looks mighty fine  ;)
Might be worth just changing the bulbs on the back of the CC unit instead of a full exchange, as you mentioned.I am sure there are only three bulbs anyway.
Very, very easy to remove but place a soft cloth around the wood trim when you do remove it.
Practice on your old one first.
I think 12 spokes, give the scorp a much better luck.
Decent price for 16" tyres, ballpark figure £35

If the ABS light is on then the ABS is not working.
16 inch tyres for £35, i wouuld not embarass the car by fitting them.

Best to replace the whole   C C    unit,    I  don't  think  the   two  individual  LCD   dislpays   are  fixable.

Like Tiberius,  my drivers side  CC  display was  dead for months till,  Lazarus like, it   came back to life  last week.

Must be the effects of Global Warming or summat  :-*

Thanks for all your responses :)

went back to the car today, couldnt get the cc panel off felt like it was going to break ! Is there something I'm missing ??

Also my new cd changer has no magazine in it, so I took the old one out and the changer is different :( can I just change the whole units ? The head unit is the same...

Cheers again

Have a read of This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fasciabulbs.htm) and see if that helps. Check which model you are dealing with ie: High or Low series before trying to remove the panel. :)

Pete when I removed mine I used the end of a steal rule and a rag to get it out far enough to get my finger tips in.
I think its a case of methodicaly working your way round.
And be prepared for helish sore finger tips.
Just remember a bit at a time mate, its very easy to get impatient and pull a bit hard and crack something.
Here are some pics of my spare one that my help, I have circled the clips and the end lug.
Hope its helpull :
