What happens exactly??

You turn it to position 2 and you have ignition lights but they go out when you try and start?
Or no lights at position 2?
Does it work as normal but not turn the engine over?

When you say all power is lost have you checked the ignition switch with a multimeter to check this?

Could be terminally sick battery too, as the starter draws current the voltage drops out - do you get clicking relays/flicking dash needles or is it just dead?

Hope this helps.

Regards, Bruce.

Could be a lot of things, need a bit more info,
if its an auto it could be the pringle switch, inhibitor relay, dead battery etc
